To have choices taken into account.
basically an individuals choices should be taken into account by the service provider, not just to be ignored and swept under the carpet. the service provider should support their individual to have the choice and control of their life in certain situations aswell as thinking about the consiquences or risks. service providers need to show that that have taken the individuals needs into consideration.
an example is; if someone "chooses" to just stay in bed all day every day of the week then the service provider has the responsibility to investigate what is happening and respond in the correct manner aswell as making it clar to the individual the consequences that could occur from their decision

Independence is to make your own choices and decisions, also learning to do things on your own. Independence can help an individual feel more in control of their life and their own care. It is empowering for the individual this is because they are in full control and are listening to their own voice instead of others.

To be treated as an individual

Treated as an individual is when someone is different but we need to treat them equally. Also treating a person equally it doesn’t mean that it need to be treated as everyone else because every individual has the right to have their own culture, beliefs, abilities and disabilities and lifestyle choices. It is important for a care worker to show appreciation to the individual they give care to. They can show respect by not discriminating against an individual, for example in a nursery it is important not to treat children differently from another. Also it is important to not judge individuals for what they may have done or use words that could cause offense. Furthermore in a nursery it is important to show interest in each child which includes learning how to pronounce new words, names that are unfamiliar to them. More than that it is important not to make fun of a child in a nursery, for instance if they make a mistake, can't do something, forget something or have an accident.
The Law realted to this right is The Equality Act which shows that every human being has the right to be treated equally.

Respect is having regard for someone's feelings, and letting the person have rights within their care. Respect is important throughout health and social care settings, as it is part of the Human rights act 1998. An example of this being used is when talking to a carer or parent of the user in a private room to give respect for the user and family.
This also links with dignity as the information shared could be embarrassing for the service user and should not be heard by other people who it does not involve.
