Now that I have completed by Two Minute Opening Task, I am able to look back on my preliminary task and see how much I have learnt for example targeting the appropriate audience, camera techniques, quality of editing and the use of mise en scene. One aspect that I believe has significantly progressed has been my ability to insert songs and audio files on top of video clips. In my preliminary task, I simply obtained 'tense music' from YouTube and inserted it at the beginning and end of my video, simultaneously appearing with the credits. In comparison, for my two minute opening task, despite it being a late decision made, I took the initiative in coming up with the idea of recording a friend singing 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun', a cover of Cyndi Lauper's song. Not only did this attract the audience, but it also received positive feedback as the soundtrack at the beginning of the opening cleverly juxtaposed against the ending where Amelia receives her text from the 'stalker.'

Furthermore, I believe the most significant feature in which I have progressed between the two tasks is with the use of lighting to reflect the genre. In my preliminary task, the genre was thriller and action based and I wanted to reflect this through the use of low lighting. However little did I realise that this would dramatically reduce the quality of the picture when exporting it onto the editing software. On top of this, more than likely, I did not have the correct settings on one of the cameras, resulting in the change in quality altering between different shots. I was able to learn from this mistake and chose a genre 'melodrama' that allowed me to use normal bright lighting. This made the process much easier as I did not have to rely on artificial lighting such as soft boxes to maintain the high quality filming.

In comparison to my preliminary task, I have been able to use a much wider range of shots including establishing shots, close-up shots, extreme close-up shots, POV shots etc. Despite not using techniques such as match-on-action and shot reverse shot as used in the preliminary task, I believe this was made up for in my plot and alternative use of shots and framing where the main character always appears in the shot. This allows the audience to get to know Amelia much better. In particular, I am very pleased with the opening shot of Amelia, where the wardrobe doors open, appearing Amelia dressed in a dressing gown and hair curlers in her hair. This immediately set the audience in the zone of getting ready, as it as if the audience are physically inside the wardrobe.

In my two minute opening, I took better care in planning the mise en scene so that is would further relate to my target audience. In the preliminary task, it was slightly inevitable for the mise en scene to be not as well carried out as we did not have the choice of location like we did for the two minute opening task. For example, I took time in strategically placing the makeup items in the logical and stereotypical manner in which they would be laid out.

Finally, something I did not carry out for the preliminary task was research into the conventions of a 'trade deal' related film which wold have helped me a lot in the planning process and production of this task. By carrying out the research in my two minute opening, I was able to fully comprehend the needs and conventions of a two minute opening. Also by analysing pre existing film openings inspired me in ways in which I would carry out the making of my media product.

In general, the preliminary task was a great learning experience and without carrying this out, I would have carried on the mistakes used through to my two minute opening task. The two minute opening allowed me to express my creativity and expansion of ideas where I experimented with varying plots before deciding which one would be best.
