Response to Attitudes Toward the Elderly

- I was slightly surprised that I agreed that older people generally take longer to get over an illness because although that is true for most my grandfathers are very active and they tend to get over illnesses faster than some teenagers I know. I knew that if a question about gaining wisdom with age was brought up that i would agree that with age does come with wisdom because you gain wisdom with experiences and the older you are the more experiences you've had meaning you tend to be more wise. Elders are generally set in their ways, they way they did things growing up are the way they will do things as they get older. The quote," why fix something that ain't broke," always reminds me of this because elders tend to thing the way that they have been doing things for years has worked so why would they change it now. Overall I wasn't too surprised by my answers, there were a few here and there that I was surprised by.

Summary of Practicing Ageism

- I would like to think I don't, but I tend to judge based on age. If I see a teenager acting as if they are two years old I usually tend to distance myself because I feel they should be more mature. I also tend to have more patience for younger children, below the age of 6, because they haven't been taught all the right and wrong things yet. If the child is above the age of 10 I tend to have less patience because they should know the difference between right and wrong by this age, especially adults. If they are an older adult, around the age of 60 or above, I have more patience for them, they know the difference between right and wrong most times but they need help getting around and other things. So I like to think that I don't practice ageism but I do to some extent.
