I also believe a purpose of schooling is to teach students how to interact with other humans. It teaches how to love and respect one another and how to control hatred and jealousy. Some students also gain much-needed discipline. Nowadays, parents often take their child's side rather than the schools' and this contributes to the lack of discipline. Schools can serve that purpose in place of the parents if necessary. The principal should be in touch with teachers and opening an ear to their ideas. I believe collaboration is coming together to do what it takes to teach a classroom. That means, for example, a student teacher being in the same classroom as a highly experienced teacher. (Emdin, pg. 85). I believe collaboration is working with parents. It is providing resources and feedback to parents. It is inviting them into the classroom to teach and/or listen. I believe collaboration is working with students in ways that benefit them. It is letting the students themselves have a say in their education and a teacher that listens. If you notice another teacher bashing some of their students or labeling them you should stand up for them. I believe being a teacher activist is doing as much as you can to fit the needs of your students and stand up for what they need. This also involves letting the students be the teachers and letting them stand up for what they believe in.
