My responsibilities as a teacher are to assist and guide learning, provide information, and to teach my students how to critically think and use their mind. I do not believe teachers make students learn; the students have to do it themselves. We are there to provide assistance and guidance. I also believe my responsibilities as a teacher are to make my students feel loved and to make my students realize how smart and wonderful they are. I think it is incredibly important for every student to feel loved and appreciated. I also believe learning cannot effectively take place if one does not feel admired.

I believe learning is an ongoing process that happens every single day. Learning is to understand a concept and gain new knowledge. I believe learning should not be based off of a students' identity or how "smart" they are. I believe learning comes from others and yourself. I learn about myself every day and reflect on my own thoughts. I believe learning can take place in personal reflections, opinions, and writing pieces. Common Core State Standards is trying to reduce personal pieces and, therefore, reduce learning. (Spring, 2018, pg. 11). I believe that truly learning is a concept that education department representatives are foreign to, yet, they get to decide how learning is regulated.

I believe that teaching comes from many varieties of people and things. Everyone is a teacher and everyone is a learner. The environment and nature teach. Young children teach and the elder teach. I believe that teaching must be improved with more experience. I believe that the way you teach effects how effectively your students learn. I believe that all teachers need to lean towards an anti-bias curriculum, even as schools are becoming more segregated, in order to reshape society. (Spring, pg. 193). It is sometimes difficult and uncomfortable to have anti-bias lessons and discussions but I believe it has the potential to fix America's education.

I purely believe the purpose of schooling is to teach students how to think. They need to know how to think for themselves and how to critically think. In addition to this, schooling provides new information and clarification. It is about learning the history of our planet Earth, how to spread a message through writing, understanding humans' behavior, and so on. I also believe a purpose of schooling is to teach students how to interact with other humans. It teaches how to love and respect one another and how to control hatred and jealousy. Some students also gain much-needed discipline. Nowadays, parents often take their child's side rather than the schools' and this contributes to the lack of discipline. Schools can serve that purpose in place of the parents if necessary. (America's Cradle to Prison Pipelines, pg. 133).

I believe all my future students are capable of learning. I will not listen to labels potentially given from other teachers like, "Oh, watch out for that kid, he's a bad one." All my future students will come into my classroom with no judgement or biases. I believe all my future students are in for a wonderful learning experience with me as their teacher. Acknowledging that good teaching takes time, I am confident that I will teach in a way that truly gets to them. I believe all my future students are capable of respecting one another and of restoring justice if needed. (Baby Steps Toward Restorative Justice). Kids get in fights, it just happens. With my assistance, I know my students will be able to properly fix it. Humans are born with hatred and jealousy, but kindness and empathy are things that we must learn and I believe my future students are capable of expressing it.

I believe students learn best when their home lives and cultures are incorporated into the curriculum. I believe students learn best when their basic needs are met like having food, shelter, and a sense of belonging. I believe students learn best when they feel like they are a part of a community and like they play an important role in the classroom. Teachers must feed confidence to the students and verbally reassure them that they are intelligent, unique beings. I believe students learn best when they are taught concepts more than content. I do not believe in "tracking" students and teaching to a test. I do not believe testing reveals students' full capability. (Spring, pg. 86). I believe students learn best when they are allowed to be open-minded and critically think.

I believe my students will learn best when I revolve their learning around each of their own personal lives. I believe my students will learn best when I build their confidence and celebrate their similarities and differences. I believe my students will learn best when I let them know how important mistakes are in the learning process and that they should not be ashamed of them. I believe my students will learn best when I make meaningful interactions with them. It lets them know that I do not think I am above them just because I am the teacher and it is one of the most important rewards of teaching. (Spring, pg. 277). I believe my students will learn best when I make the classroom a community where all voices are heard, friends are made, and everybody has a sense of belonging. I believe my students will learn best when I make meaningful, engaging, and authentic lesson plans that gets them constantly doing something different and new.

I believe community and family play a very important role in schools. I believe they should be represented in classrooms. I believe students should have the opportunity to bring in their families and have them teach us of their cultures. I believe community and family can enhance learning when the curriculum is revolved around them. I believe families need to feel like they are apart of their child's education; they need to feel valued. I believe community and family need to play a part in every student's learning experience and that it should be encouraged. Too often students are expected to leave their home lives at the door and assimilate into the culture of school. (Emdin, pg. 23).

I believe collaboration is having resources. Collaboration is the community and the government providing resources and supplies in classrooms. I believe collaboration is a staff that listens to each other. The principal should be in touch with teachers and opening an ear to their ideas. I believe collaboration is coming together to do what it takes to teach a classroom. That means, for example, a student teacher being in the same classroom as a highly experienced teacher. (Emdin, pg. 85). I believe collaboration is working with parents. It is providing resources and feedback to parents. It is inviting them into the classroom to teach and/or listen. I believe collaboration is working with students in ways that benefit them. It is letting the students themselves have a say in their education and a teacher that listens. I believe collaborating is whoever and whatever coming together to create the best learning environment.

I believe being a teacher activist is standing up for what you believe in. It is fighting for the teaching methods you wish to see to create the most effective learning environment. I believe being a teacher activist is fighting for your students and even other students. If you notice another teacher bashing some of their students or labeling them you should stand up for them. I believe being a teacher activist is doing as much as you can to fit the needs of your students and stand up for what they need. This also involves letting the students be the teachers and letting them stand up for what they believe in. (Emdin, pg. 87).
