Exhibition to mark the end of First year. Initialed and curated.
This involved having meetings with the manager of the space and having a formal proposal. Marketing the event, I had done this through creating a poster and promoting online. I also had to select artists with successful applications to the exhibition. I had to ask participants for their own blurb and I had to write my own, I had help from Liz McNeill with combining this information onto a singular document. I decided to name the exhibition after our years zine 'Domestic Labour'

I had also arranged to have our Zine at the exhibition too, to reenforce the physical work. I then directed a team to install the work in a way that I had planned and curated. I also invigilated throughout the entire exhibition. Finally arranging with the participating artists a way for them to uninstall the work, each artists collected their work from me. I was also managing the finance side of the operation. I made sure to document this exhibition for the benefit of the venue and participating artists.

Exhibition I had taken part in 2016, this was a collaborative exhibition with all participating students contributing to the exhibition. During this exhibition I helped install work, decided what I was exhibiting. This process gave me a real insight into what goes into putting an exhibition on.

During first year I had a studio at 'The Space'. being part of this community allowed me to gain insight from mainly art school graduates and some fourth year students , it also meant i was practicing in a professional environment. Being part of this community meant that I was working with other around me regularly and allowing my professional practice to develop further.

FUNDING COMMITTEE

Being part of the funding committee has allowed me to gain further insight on what it takes secure funding at GSA it also allows me to understand our budget further and having discussions with other members means i have an idea of how others think and ensures i really know what the important aspects can be when applying and granting funding for others.

I have gone back to my old Art department after a few years and done some small workshops within classes and worked alongside the head of department in classes as an assistant. Giving students small exercises and guidance helped me understand my own practice further.

Our exhibition in the crit space at stow allowed me to evaluate my work outside of my studio, i gave me the opportunity to work with other students during the install and uninstall, this was a good experience to talk about my own work and others work in a open environment.

Olivia Priya Foster’s most recent work is explored through video, sound, installation and performance. Foster explores her own biography, dealing with subjects such as landscape, home, culture, South Asian diaspora, ecology, migration and queer identity. Fosters work explores the dislocation in her relationship to the social and physical landscape of rural Scotland. Fosters deep relationship to land is explored through using physical attributes of the landscape to produce her response. Themes of home, memory, childhood and displacement run throughout, and are explored in a range of mediums. One of Fosters most recent works ‘Black sheep’ is a testament to her endeavour to alter landscapes and reference social landscapes connected to her identity. Fosters work is centred around the subversion of material and the reimagining of landscapes. The physical intervention of the landscape and material subsequently comments on the social landscapes she is part of, as a queer person of colour. The work is rooted in her experience of rurality and the intergenerational trauma of migration. Foster interdisciplinary practice is often rooted in storytelling and is manifested and realized through sound, installation, performance, video and sculpture.
