My full first name is Emilyean. My mom worked at a daycare at one point and really liked these two siblings named Emily and Anne and she decided to make my name somewhat of a combination of those (but not really). My name is pronounced Emi-lean(like to lean against something). My maiden last name is pronounced Ill-ch and is a German/Austrian name. However, in school when my full name was on the roster I always got called Emily Anne or Em-illion or Emi-lin. It was frustrating as a child to always have to correct people on how to say my name especially when I have a difficult last name too. I have never gone by Emilyean so I don't really identify this as my name per-say. I got to the point where I had my mom in High school put my name just as Emily so I didn't have to worry about teachers or subs getting it wrong and having to stop in the roster because they couldn't pronounce my first or last name. Even as an adult for jobs or school I have always made sure to put Emily as my preferred name since I never once have wanted to go by Emilyean.

My mom's name is Estella. She was always called Stelle or Stella. Her aunt was Stella. The name is "star" in Latin. I have two older sisters, Theresa and Patty, who wanted to name me, the third girl, after my mom. I have been Babystelle my whole life. I hated the name when I was younger because people never heard of it and always assumed "Michelle" when I said it. I love it now. I almost wish my name was even less popular so I could not respond to people who did not take the time to get it right! lol

My name doesn't have any awesome family ties or special meaning besides my mom liking it when she saw the movie "The Parent Trap" when she was pregnant with me. Growing up, I really disliked my name because no one ever pronounced it right on the first try or many of the times after that. My name is pronounced "Hah-lee" like Halle Berry, is what I tell most people. To many people, I am "Hay-lee", which is a pretty name, it is just not mine. I have grown to love my name because it makes me unique and special because not many people have my name.

My mom choose to name me Emily for a few reasons. She told me that she got Emily from the feminine form of Emil (a German boy name) and she also liked the Laura Nyro song Emirates because she thought the song write wrote it about her daughter. There is a line in the song that says "Emily, you ornament the Earth for me". My mom also liked how the name Emily looked in cursive. My last name Peterson has English, Scottish, and German origins. It is derived from the Greek word "petros" which means "rock". It also has been used in religion due to the apostle St. Peter. I also wanted to include my birth name which is "Jiang Chun". Loosely translated it means river and spring. It is Chinese in origin and was historically linked backed to a legendary emperor of China.

Jennifer means white wave, white phantom, white/pale/smooth complexion, or fair lady. Yeah and that does not describe me externally and internally. Jennifer was a popular name in the 1970s until the early 1980s. These were my mother's decades and I guess she went with what was trendy.

My mother chose this name because she “expected great things.” This was communicated to me throughout my entire childhood. I had the experience of my
name being mispronounced and misspelled a lot growing up. At the time, it was an uncommon name and not every adult was familiar. So I would get called Lauren, Laura, and even Laurelle by people who didn’t know how to pronounce “Laurel.” It bothered me until I
asked about it and then I just started correcting them.
