The cause of resource decline on Easter Island is from the statues and it also could be from the Tangata Manu not distributing bird eggs and fledglings according to who needs it, e.g having a bad Tangata Manu. The effect this has on the people is them not having the resources to fullfill opportunities handed to them/not being able to work to their full potential.

Perspective is also quite a huge part in Easter Island's history as to the Islanders it was probably all they knew to use their religion as their number one motive, an example of this is how they built their statues which used their resources and how they did a dangerous egg race to see who ruled their supply of birds/eggs or who became the 'Tangata - Manu'.
