The first epigraph in Rocket boys talks about how education is valuable in a child. Education is the most prized position in a child’s head. No tangible object or positions can surpass the value of education. Education can not be taken away from a child. It is what will lead them throughout life and make them succeed. 

The second epigraph in Rocket Boys talks about having courage. Many things are provided for us in life, but it is decisions we make that affect the outcome. Life depends on if we try to venture out and try new things. We need courage in anything we approach. Similarly we need to have a strive and motivation to read a book if it is given to us.

5 qualities that I admire include intelligence, honesty, hard working, caring, and courageous. I admire intelligence because I believe it is essential for succeeding in life. Hard work shows determination and passion for different things. Caring people spend time apart to take care and love you. Courage’s people are up for challenges and the unknown which is admirable. 

If people do not conform in our society they will be punished for not following the rules. It is difficult to become a non conformist because it is hard to follow every rule. These rules are not our choice to follow but are required in a society. This may be hard because it is hard to follow something that someone has given you. No matter if you like or dislike the rules you have to follow them

Sonny’s father holds a bad relationship with Sonny. His father never has time for Sonny and is more interested Jim’s athletic abilities in football. When his father catches him using the rocket he exclaims, “Collect stamps, catch frogs, keep bugs in a jar, do whatever you want. But no more rockets” (Hickam 95). Elsa is a great motherly figure because she cares about Sonny’s dreams and passions. She believes that Sonny does not have to grow up to be like his father but that he can do what he is passionate about. Jim and Sonny both coexist in the same household but have a very distant relationship. When Sonny moves houses  he proclaims, “I liked the move because for the first time I didn’t have to share a room with Jim, who never made any pretense of liking me or wanting me around” (Hickam 15). Their different personalities and traits may have caused a rift in their bond as brothers.
