However i do not feel that it is the largest part. Self assessing is a good step to see if you have a mastery of the material, it is not the way that I would engage the students in having multiple means. Yakov was talking about how some of the students in Marin now have to pass all of their work at a b level to go on, making sure that they have multiple chances, but have to master the material. In my classroom I will  change the dynamics of grading a little bit by given written feedback without grades on certain assignment by partnering suggestions, references and resources for how to make improvements to work, strengths, and a new perspective of  what your grade means and the weight it carries. As a response to the written feedback everyone in the class will be given a new assignment to show corrections and generate a new piece of work based on the resources I have given. This will allow for additional points to be added to the original score if you have shown growth and proficiency of the standard.

I would put this belief in the syllabus this way: "I will encourage the growth of your students by introducing each lesson without the threat of assessment. This encourages the students to develop the skills willingly, without the hesitation to make mistakes."

Not all assignments will be graded as is traditionally done.  However, other skills will be graded that are used to complete these assignments such as effort, collaboration, creativity, etc.

You will have the opportunity to fix your assignment if you are unsatisfied with the grade received. Rubrics will be used to highlight areas of accomplishment and areas for improvement. Rubrics will be given to you at the start of each assignment so you know the expectations for the assignment. 
 
Participation points are can be easily earned by simply participating and being engaged in the classroom environment. Assignments done in class will be graded as either complete or incomplete. I want all the hard work you do in class to be accounted for.

The students who really want to have good grades will turn them back in, but the students who feel defeated don't.  Therefore, next I will try giving the feedback without a grade and asking for the assignment back in order to grade it.
