• In 1997 Viola Krebs recruited more than 800 volunteers to help hold the 12th World AIDS Conference in Geneva. After the success of this event, volunteers who wanted to continue working together formed a permanent team together with the organizers and after 2 years, an international non-governmental organization International Communications Volunteers was created and registered.
• In 2003, ICVolunteers received associate status with the UN Department of Public Information.
