         <title>Billy Bishop (Famous Canadian Military Leader)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Air Marshal William Avery "Billy" Bishop was born on February 8th, 1894 and died on September 11th, 1956. He was a Canadian flying ace and Victoria Cross recipient in the First World War. He was officially credited with 72 victories (in air-to-air combat), making him the top Canadian ace of the war. During the Second World War, Bishop was instrumental in setting up and promoting the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. He was the first real 'ace' pilot from Canada!<br><br>REASONS FOR FAME<br>1. Won a Victoria Cross award for a solo attack on a German airbase during WW1<br>2. Won a Distinguished Flying Cross award, with the WW1 presenters saying "his value as a moral factor to the Royal Air Force cannot be over-estimated"<br>3.
