Matter and Energy includes solubility, thermal and electric energy in addition to the same 4th grade investigations of matters measurable properties…also students actually make mixtures and go into Element compounds and it will build in middle school to density and chemical changes 

Force/Energy 4th grade states that they will build on their understanding of circuits in grade 5…grade 5 goes into Newton’s Laws of Motion 

Earth/Space- also states in 4th that in 5th they will build their understanding to learn more about day/night, shadows and rotation of earth on its axis….4th classifies resources but 5th will learn ways to actually manage resources 

Organisms and Environments-in 5th it states that they will use the webs from grade 4 by predicting how the ecosystem changes affect flow and energy..the things they will do in 5th will be the foundation for grade 6 

Nature of Science/Scientific Hypothesis and Theories no noticeable differences between 4th and 5th grade language here 

-we all recognized how much more detailed the introduction is compared to the 2017 TEKS introduction…very specific and much more lengthy

Items are organized into recurring strands based on prior knowledge and establish a foundation or high school courses. 

In Grade 4 specifically...
scientific and engineering practices are crucial. 

Scientific practices: students asking questions, plan and conduct investigations in order to answer and explain phenomena. 

Engineering practices: students identify problems and design solutions.

We will support instruction by integrating scientific and engineering practices at least 50% of instructional time.
