To help promote my group, I would ask teachers to send me information on students that have high needs in behavior for frustration. This could be shown through DBRC data and observations. I would also talk with assistant principals on what they have seen and any data they may have. This will help me seek out who would benefit from the group.

I will also have flyers in the fourth grade hallway that will show what the group is.

One way I plan to assess for the group is look at the scores on DBRC data. This will show accuracy on how each child is doing in each class. I can also compare this data with referrals and see if they show the same information.

Once I gather the information the students will come to the counselor's office on eat a time to see if they have interests in the group and what questions they may have.

Once I have reviewed the data and spoke to the individuals to see if there would be any interests, I would then send a consent paper home. The paper would have information regarding the group and what we will be focusing on. Then it will have a place at the bottom where the parent/legal guardian can sign if they want their child to attend.

Stage 1: In order for my sessions to be successful I know that I have to have a safe place for each student to feel welcomed. My first session we will go over rules and expectations. I will express the high importance of confidentiality and how it works. I will go over that if someone expresses a point of harming themselves or others that I have to report it.I will also remind students that what is said in here should not be socialized to others.

Then I will create a slideshow about me. This will help the students get to know me more and hopefully not think of me as a stranger. I will then explain how I am showing active listening by asking someone to tell me about themselves and I listen the whole time.

Stage 2: During the very first session, I will have students create a goal that they want to achieve by the end of the last session. At the beginning of each session I will have a quick reflection question they will respond to about the session before and any comments they want to make about it. At the end of each session I will do the same thing. This will help me determine if I need to change up the next session or something else. I will also keep in contact with teachers to see how the student has been doing since starting the sessions.

Stage 3: For the closure of the group, I will have students reflect back on their original goal at the beginning of the session. They will then determine if they have reached their goal. During their reflection pieces before and after each session their goal should be mastered. I will also be sure they are reminded about confidentiality and what that looks like again. Then they will be reminded about the strategies learned.

Both of these help so much with how they can react and help them work through frustration. I can possibly see students wanting to give advice on those who may be going through the same structure as them.
