For Ignatius the process involves prayer, reflection, and consultation with others-all with honest attention not only to

the rational (reasons pro and con) but also to the realm of one's feelings, emotions, and desires (what Ignatius called "movements" of soul).

Ignatian spirituality is summed up in this phrase. It invites a

person to search for and find God in every circumstance of life, not just in explicitly religious

situations or activities such as prayer in church (e.g., the Mass) or in private. It implies that God is present everywhere and, though invisible, can be "found" in any and all of the creatures which God has made.

They reveal at least a little of what their Maker is like--often by arousing wonder in those who are able to look with the "eyes of faith."

"Before you judge or assess or respond, give yourself time to esteem and accept what is there in theother."

(3) If you learn to be attentive and reverent, "then you will find devotion, the singularly moving way in which God works in that situation, revealing goodness and fragility, beauty and truth, pain and anguish, wisdom and ingenuity."

People are often helped to integrate their faith and their life

by talking on a regular basis (e.g., monthly) with someone they can trust. This person acts as

a guide (sometimes also called a spiritual friend, companion, or director) for the journey, helping them to find the presence and call of God in the people and circumstances of their everyday lives. The assumption is that God is already present there, and that another person, a

guide, can help them to notice God's presence and also to find words for talking about that presence, because they are not used to doing so.

The Ignatian family brings together those who share the spirituality of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus. They have in common the search for God's presence in daily life (seeking and finding God in all things) and the practice of the Spiritual Exercises (a booklet written by Saint Ignatius based on his own spiritual experience). The Ignatian family has many faces: it brings together different congregations, communities, associations and movements – both religious and lay – not to mention the educational, charitable, spiritual and social institutions they run.

A group of young people (18-35) that journey togehter, through joyful moments and challenges. Meeting around once a moment to share experiences from the four pilars and sharing through the Magis Circle. Magis isn’t just a group or an event—it’s a call to live with purpose and authenticity. Embrace the journey, and let it transform you from the inside out."

Since 2005 there is a youth gathering of the Ignatian family to prepare for the WYD. It is an opportunity for Ignatian youth from different countries to reflect, share and celebrate together. It is an invitation to experience the joys and the cries of so many people, made possible thanks to the diversity of so many participants. It is an invitation as well to experience the presence of a shared desire, in each person’s heart, for more just societies that could offer sustainable and life-giving possibilities.

These are the type of experiences (experiments) that put young people in touch with God’s dream for humanity and awaken in us, the young Ignatians, yearning and determination, moved and supported by the Spirit of God.

After his strong conversion experience, Saint Ignatius started searching for God in all things, in his life and he was guided by this word magis, an elusive word that can be taken to mean doing the more, the better, the greater for God.

With the [‘magis] – circle, you have the possibility to reflect on the day together and to discover where the presence of God has been. This kind of sharing works when every person gets involved and tells something of his or her experience of the day. Listening is the key to these meetings. In the MAGiS circle, there is no right answer or discussion about what someone shares. Instead, you accept the other with great respect, listening carefully and learning from others’ experiences and insights. The MAGiS circles take place in small groups.

Magis circle rounds

The MAGiS circle is led by one person who leads others through five steps:

Reflection

Everyone takes time in silence to look back over the day.

The following two rounds are purely for listening. Each person speaks, explaining a little bit about himself or herself in response to a question given out before the meeting. The others only listen to the speaker.

What that person shares is not discussed, but one may ask the speaker to clarify what was said.

Round 1

How did the day go for me?

Where did I find inner joy today?

Where did I have difficulties?

Round 2

How was the Scripture of the day or Ignatian theme reflected in my day? What did I encounter, experience, or see today as a result?

In the third round, one can enter into discussion about what was said. Still it is not the point to prove oneself right or to convince others of a particular opinion. The purpose is to share experiences and to learn from one another.

Round 3

What from the sharing of others in the group had an impact on me?

Is there anything else I would like to share in light of what I have heard?

Closing with a “lightning round”

Everyone responds again to the following question with a short sentence or word: How do I feel now after this sharing?
