All students come to us with varying levels of knowledge about college, themselves and how to be successful in a college setting. They come from different backgrounds, in differing stages of cognitive development. I believe it is my job as an Advisor to teach students how to navigate the transition to college.

This work requires adaptability. I am a listener, a resource provider, a questioner, and a learner. I aspire to always provide accurate, timely information to students. I am constantly learning more about the field of advising and the generations of students in college. I work on developing my counseling techniques and my knowledge of culturally responsive academic advising. I am collaborating with campus partners such as the Career Hub, faculty, Student Financial Services, and the Learning Commons. I spend time in meetings asking students about their summers, families, interests and jobs. I brainstorm with them, challenge them, and provide advice. I congratulate them on their successes and check on them when they are in need.

This is how I become the advisor I wish to be - I continue learning, growing and caring so that I can support students in their learning and growth in a holistic, individualized and authentic way.
