I chose this picture because I visited Utah last summer and went to the national parks with red rocks in 103 degree weather. In the photo I am climbing and getting stuck in peculiar ways on the rock in attempt get a good Instagram picture. The red rock dust was sticking to my sweaty skin and in actually the moment was more cliche than anything.

I chose this picture that was taken at the stranger things museum in San Francisco, because the guy that took the picture for me told us to look scared in this picture, but my sisters and I could not even fake it for that one picture and just burst out laughing. After I left and looked at the pictures he took, there was not even one picture where we looked scared, we were laughing in all of them. But I'm glad the pictures don't look blurry!

The element I chose for this photo is color. This is probably one of my favorite pictures I've taken, I love sunsets so this one was fun to take. I love how the darkness of everything else allows us to focus on the sun itself and the beautiful colors in the sky. I personally love seeing the different shades of orange just like in this photo.

I recently just got into needle punching andI wanted to take a photo of my work without trying to be cliche. I thought if I added the materials and tools to the scene it’ll add more context and interest to the photo rather than just having the flower be the only thing in the scene. I payed special attention to how I spaced all the items, I wanted it to look clean and organized so I tried my best to have even lighting and keeping the composition organized. I placed the flower off center because I didn’t want it to be the only thing to look at, I’m hoping that the viewer will naturally look left to right, looking at all the items present.

I really like this picture. I think that it contains multiple elements. You really notice the texture of the bark on the tree trunk. You also really notice the line and shape of the tree trunk is not straight. You can see the color of the vibrant green trees that are coming from behind. You also see the green leaves coming from the right side of the tree.

For my photo I chose to use the element lines. Despite the bottles not being straight, there are still lines within it, the rows of bottles further add to this element of lines. I chose to take my photograph which might seem like an odd place but I find it quite interesting how there are so many colors and products being marketed toward you as a consumer and human being. I noticed while changing the picture into black and white just how much color plays a role in how we perceive products and items in a place such as a gas station. The colors draw our eyes in different ways, by changing it to black and white your eyes begin to wonder elsewhere.

This photo is of my daughter and I at the beach. I chose this image because it carries the features of both, color and value. As you can see, the sunset is coming down, making the sky look beautiful with vibrant colors and I like how the colors slowly fade-in into one another. Also, I can the element of value coming in because the whole photograph itself is more of a darker image than lighter and both my daughter and I show and appearance of darker value .

For my shallow depth of field, I choose to photograph these rare prickly pears on s cactus near my house. I love how this orangish/red is against the green cactus, which is blurred in the background. I tried 3.8-8 aperture, but I like how the 5.0 arpeture singles out this one prickly pear and has the rest blurred out.

The color is clear even from far away and you can really feel like you are standing in front of these fireworks. For diminishing scale I had first struggled to come with an idea as Napa doesn't have much of a big skyline, however I noticed that looking above at a parking lot can show this. Cars closest to you will appear far larger than the cars at the back of the parking lot.

For forced perspective it took a couple of tries but eventually I was able to capture a picture where it appeared as though my friend was grabbing onto a building. I realized the lower I was to the ground the easier it was to capture and created this forced perspective.

I chose overlap because I really like the idea of adding dimension to a photo to create that feeling like you were there when it was taken. My main subject is my friend sitting on the driver seat and I made it a point to put him in the corner of the photo to show how cramped it was inside his car. I chose to portray the element of lines. The photo is of some books lined up in my house and you can tell that the direction is kind of going from left to right as I stood towards the last book and took the shot facing the left side. The lines are all vertical and but the angle creates an inconsistent amount of space between each line which brings in dimension.

I attempted to create slight depth in this image by keeping the focus on these little flowers on my bedside table. The colors scheme is more so neutral so the flowers do kind of blend in on top of the fact that adjusting the setting was tricky for me. Although, you will see that the book in the back is completely blurred, making the flowers appear less deep.

I'm a little skeptical about this image of a canvas I painted. I chose it because the painting and my wall are both clear, but I feel that the painting itself involves some depth. For this image I took a picture of orange, yellow and green leaves. Each of these colors are next to each other on a color wheel. I found these leaves while walking around outside, I think it is a great representation of analogous because these three colors are found in nature. I chose rocks and hands as the background in order to not get in the way of the other three colors.

For this image I chose blue, green and orange to work together. Although there is other colors in the image those three are still the main focus. The wood behind my friend is orange, her dress is blue and the plants are green in a blue pot. The orange works well with the complementary colors of green and blue.

I took this image when I brought my camera to the top of Mt. Tamalpais this week. I was trying to capture both the peak itself and the beautiful fog-shrouded landscape in the background. The leaves in the foreground are sharp and in focus and the background is out of focus, however, I wish I created a bit more contrast between the foreground and background, as the leaves being focused on don't sand out enough in my opinion.

For my final portfolio I decided to choose the topic: Beauty of Nature.
Personally I love anything that has to do with nature, whether it’s flowers, the sky, etc. I mainly focused on the sky as you can tell in most of these pictures. My personal favorites though are the ones with the sunsets. On my trip to Tahoe I was able to capture these images of it snowing which was super exciting, this was a great way to end the semester!

I took this picture at a concert I went to recently, and while for most of the show, the lights were red, casting a sinister glow over everyone in attendance. But, for part of the set, the lights went white creating a very sterile, monochromatic image. For my final I chose to go with the Beauty of Nature topic. I chose this topic because taking pictures of nature is what mostly inspired me into taking a photography class. I wanted to get more familiar with a actual camera like the one I got which is a canon. I am super happy with how much I have learned in this class and will definitely keep on taking pictures of nature, they will definitely look way more clear and better from what I was doing before! I chose to go with more of a plant/flower kind of nature theme!

This is the picture I chose for shadow. I liked the way the leaves (or seeds??) are still in the picture, casting their shadow against the house. I thought the mute colors and slight tinge color from the leaves went well together.

This was my final photo and I loved how it came out, I didn't really know what to expect since I couldn't really see from the angle, but it came out really nice. For my final portfolio I chose rainy days as my topic. I thought I would go with this because growing up in Napa Valley it never snowed on Christmas (or you know ever), but the closest thing we get to snow is rain or hail. I love the rain and it's always nostalgic when it's raining, I think these pictures came out well and represent a lot more to me than just a final. Thank you for everything prof.

For my use of front light, I took my camera out to an event with my friends, where I got this picture using flash to create the previously mentioned front light. I chose this picture just because of the ironic context behind it, someone had thrown the random cliff bar at one of my friends so he picked it up and posed with it. Even though the picture isn't very artsy I still enjoy it, as the front light creates a good contrast between the darkly lit chaos unfolding behind him.

For my backlight photo, I used myself as the subject. While I was admiring a sunset out in the Marin Headlands, I set up my camera to take a slightly meta picture of me taking a picture. The light coming from behind the subject creates what I think is a pretty effect of some of the orange light rays reflecting off my darkened silhouette.

Food Still life

For this still life I chose to capture a banana. I chose this as it is one of my favorite foods and it is easy to capture on a camera. I like how you can see all the different colors including green and brown.

For my dramatic light still life I chose to use my friends cardboard cut out of someone she likes. I chose to have both the lighting in the background and a flash from a phone becuase he is famous and often has lots of cameras on him.

For this image I was in the same store and noticed a shadow made form the lighting and some jackets. I find it intersting you can find shadows created inside and outside.

For this landscape I decided to make it look like the ocean along some rocks. I used a bag to create the ocean floor. Shadows to make it look like dark. Finally I used shoes to create the mountain edges.

Final - Hoop Dreams/Street Photography

For my final, I incorporated elements of street photography to tell a story through images depicting a theme of basketball/someone's hoop dreams. I decided to capture images that were slightly cliche but paid homage to iconic perspectives/imagery portrayed in pop culture's depiction of basketball. I made the choice to make all of the photos in black and white because to me it made them feel quieter, which is to emphasize the fact that basketball helps quiet my mind and tunes out all the white noise.

For the final I chose to do the different fazes in a game. Me hitting, fielding, throwing exc. I love baseball, it's a great sport but it's way more than just a game. There's a lot of inside to baseball that you learn about along the way.

For this assignment I chose to photograph a part of a town during winter. I chose to capture different things I noticed while walking around. I found it interesting how different things can look different if you keep walking a little further. I liked how this assignment challenged me to get out of my comfort zone.
