Contribution to the Event

As a journalist, I will be focusing on getting promotion through the medium of social media. As my role is to get this day as much recognition as possible, I will need to reach as many people as I can. Social media is at the forefront of getting the word out, and the fact that our event is centred around university students, where social media is a big part of their lives, there will be a huge amount of pressure riding on it, in terms of the success of this event.

I would look to make events regarding our event on sites like Facebook and Twitter, detailing what our event is raising awareness and exposure about. Gaining exposure through these mediums will be vital in creating publicity for the event. i would predominantly focus on social media accounts of universities. I will contact the media teams of each university and ask them i they would be happy to promote our event on their page, or even their university website itself. This would reach all university students that follow their respective universities on social media. I would also include a description to repost/retweet to gain that extra bit of exposure. As a journalist, providing the facts in a concise but detailed manner is essential. This will be very helpful, because since my target audience is students, and are less likely to read a very lengthy social media post. I would use the name of the event as a big, bold header and have a short but descriptive message underneath, detailing the day. This should make for a more appealing post, and more likely to be read by people scrolling through their feed/timeline.

Timing is essential when promoting an event. I would have to know every detail of the event in order to promote the event in the best fashion that i can and to answer any follow-up questions from people showing interest in the event.
1. Know what time it is.
2. Know when it is.
3. Know the details and relevance/reasoning of every event that is taking place throughout the day and where they are.
4. Know every special guest speaker we will be having, where they will be throughout the day and what they will be speaking about.

I will attempt to search through social media accounts and pages in order to find the right people to attend the event, and hopefully agree to speak about:
'The stress problems students face with university e.g. meeting deadlines, coping with tuition fees or feeling as though they belong in this different and challenging environment.

These people would be professionals in student welfare, psychology and mental health exercises (yoga instructors, laughing classes, motivational speakers).

As social media is such a great tool to get into contact with people, I would search for the appropriate talents to either speak at the event or conduct classes to cope with stress. As a journalist, I would read up on each potential talent to gain all the information about them and their skills and if they seem to be appropriate for the event through either their websites or social media pages. I would then both attempt to phone them, leave emails detailing our event and why we want them to attend and also leave direct messages to them on their social media pages if they are available.

It would also be good to get some current and past students that are/have been struggling with university stress to speak about their experiences. I would attempt to find these students by posting requests on social media to get into contact with students that have had trouble with coping with stress themselves at university. I would also attempt to make this easier to find suitable people by asking universities, like Curtin, to tweet and post requests to any students that may want to speak at, or even just attend the event.

I would also entertain live streaming on twitter throughout the day of the event. This would keep both the people at the event aware of the different activities taking place during different times of the day, and also people wanting to follow the day at home.
I would use the hashtag '#studentstressday' to detail the event during each tweet. I will put up simple wrtiiten messages, but also upload pictures and video feed to further document the day.
Events with a good hashtag get 5 times more exposure than an event without a hashtag. REFERENCE
I will try and get all of the people and entities that are following the event to either retweet, like or comment on the posts. This will create further recognition of the day.
and also include hashtags of Curtin University to centralise the student clientele.
I would have updates before, during and after each new event and to ensure I detail every facet of the activity.

I will research which social media site is best utilised for the promotion of certain content. I will post an event about the event on various social media sites (facebook, twitter, instagram), but will most likely invest in utilising twitter for live tweeting. Its ability for people to like, comment, retweet and create trends would be an invaluable source of spreading the word and getting further recognition of the day.
