The first book I finished this school year was Lord of the Flies. It is an amazing book that in the end is really about leadership. The plot is a bunch of boys wash up on an island in the middle of nowhere and they have to survive. As the book goes along conflicts arise between the boys and questions on who should really be the leader.

A Separate Piece

A Separate Piece was a great book that really kept me interested in the story line. It is about two boys (Phineas and Gene), who are roommates at a boarding school. Gene is jealous that Phineas is so widely liked and athletic and one day Phineas, Gene and all their friends are swimming at the river near campus. The two boys climb a tree together to jump from into the river and Gene shakes the branch so Phineas falls onto the bank. Phineas shatters his leg and is unable to play sports ever again. The story line talks about how and if Gene will be able to deal with the guilt.

This was a challenging book but I learned a lot of new words. It is about these married couple that lives in a small town and on a mill farm. The wife is sick and is terrible to the husband and the husband falls in love with the women that is helping take care of his wife. I did not love this book but I think it was a good read.

This was an amazing scientific dystopic novel set in the future. All books are burned and nobody knows what was in them. A man (Guy) is a firefighter and their job is to burn books. Guy one day realizes how corrupt this system is and tries to thwart the people but ends of messing up. Their is a big chase and Guy ends up escaping and meeting people that have all read different books and just remember everything in the books so that when the day comes when books aren't illegal, they will be there for the people.

This book related to me a lot through today's world problems. It talks about a woman who lives in the country just outside of London in 1665. It talks about all that this woman loses. She is a medic and goes around helping everyone survive the plague and get better even after she has lost all three of her children to it. I really enjoyed reading a book where I could talk about similarities between then and now.
