Include books like "All Are Welcome" by Alexandra Penfold (celebrates diversity), "Llama Llama Holiday Drama" by Anna Dewdbey (shows different holiday traditions), and "Thank you Omu!" by Oge Mora (Nigerian culture).

When reading "The Name Jar" by Yangsook Choi (Korean-American experience), ask: How do you think Unhei feels about her name? Have you ever felt different?" This gives them a chance to open up about their own personal experiences.

After reading "Corduroy" by Don Freeman talk about how Corduroy feels about himself and how he overcomes challenges. This could spark conversation about personal challenges they are facing.

Have students draw pictures and write simple sentences about their families' traditions or a special celebration they participate in.

A student brings in a kimono from Japan and shares that its worn during special occasions. Another students brings in dreidel and explains how its's used during Hanukkah.

Sample tortillas from Mexico, rice from China and apple pie from the USA. Discuss the colors, textures and flavors.

Let them try on sari (India), a kilt (Scotland, where my ancestors are from), and a cowboy hat (USA), for students to try on and learn about their origins and significance.

Use world map to locate the countries where banana, mangoes, and cocoa beans are grown. Discuss how these foods travel to our stores.

Read "Martin's Big Words: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." by Doreen Rapport. Discuss is message of peace equality.

Act out a scene where students take turns being Rosa Parks and other passengers on the bus, emphasizing the importance of fairness.

Create a timeline of Lunar New Year celebrations, showing the different animals associated with each year and traditions involved. I think this is such and interesting tradition and love learning about the way they fall in line with associated birth years.

Invite a local to share stories about their childhood and how things have changed over time. Let them relive some of how things have changed in the community let the children hear about where things used to be and how stores and landmarks have changed.

Introduce students to instruments from different cultures and explore their sounds and how they are played.

Example:

Show pictures and videos of a sitar (India) and a didgeridoo (Australia). Let students try to imitate the sounds with their voices or classroom instruments.

Learn simple dances or movements from various cultures, focusing on the rhythm and cultural context.

Example:

Teach a basic salsa step or a traditional Japanese fan dance.

Create art projects inspired by different cultural art forms and traditions.

Example:

Create Chinese paper lanterns or Mexican paper banners.

Play music from around the world during classroom activities, transitions or quiet time.

Example:

Play reggae music from Jamaica during art, Celtic music from Ireland during reading, or I have found I like some Bollywood music from India, and that could be played during playtime. Discuss how the music makes everyone feel.
