You never know what you have until it's gone.

I never realized how lucky I was to be able to walk into the bathroom and turn on the water or turn on a light. During Hurricane Helene I was unable to do those things without the power of a generator for which we only had for 2 days of the 21 days we went without lights, water, etc.

How does this relate to my theme

This example relates to the theme by saying how I never thought about doing simple things but during the hurricane I was not able to do those things for so many days. My daily life changed, normal things that I never realized were a luxury I could no longer do, I never realized how lucky I was to be able to do those small things.

During Hurricane Helene there wasn't any cell service, after going out of my house and seeing all the destruction I was so worried about my family and friends. I could not call them because there was no cell service and we could not get to them.

How does this relate to my theme

This relates to my theme by saying how I never realized how lucky I was that I could just pick up my phone and call my family and friends and check on them, but during the hurricane I could not do that. It was a feeling of helplessness, not knowing how the people I love were.

Whenever I looked outside on September 26th I never realized that was the last time I would see Yancey County as it was before the Hurricane. I never knew that that day would be that last day that things would be as they were before. There were no longer as many trees on the mountains, there are huge holes in the ground business, homes, parks, and so much more just gone and I could never see the same landscape again.

How does this relate to my theme

This relates to my theme because I didn't realize that I would never see our town as it was before. The place I have lived my whole life was changed forever. I never realized just how beautiful the land was until it was gone.
