What are EAA's?

Exam Access Arrangements (EAAs) are the reasonable adjustments that can be made for an exam candidate, and might include things like extra time to complete an exam paper, permission to use assistive technology, or provision of rest breaks. The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) is responsible for the approval of EAAs

Normal way of working 'NWOW'

In order to apply for EAAs, a bank of evidence must be provided to the JCQ that evidence a students 'normal way of working' within a centre. There needs to be a clear and established routine and use of EAAs for them to be granted in exam settings.

Testing for EAAs

Where students have a history of need within a certain field of education (such as difficulty reading or reading fluency), a specialist assessor can assess the student using psychometric testing methods. The results of these tests will determine if EAAs can be applied.
EHCP students do not need to be tested and EAAs can be applied if 'normal way of working' is clearly evidenced.

When does EAA testing take place?

Usually a student will be formally test once they have reached year 9.
In years 7 and 8 pupils are monitored and EAAs are trialled in preparation and to prove consistent 'NWOW'
