I want to focus on promoting reading more this year. I always do this but I want to be more purposeful about it using some of the ideas from the book. I plan to start the year reaching out to English teachers and make the case for independent reading. When classes come to the library for book talks I plan to use ideas from the book to build community and discussion around the books. (Kendel)

Culminating Letter
- Letter to the librarian would be a neat culminating idea. Maybe a letter at the beginning and the end?
  - My school is on 4x4 which means kids only have English one semester. Part of the letter could be how the library can help support them with their reading if they don’t have English
  - I love the options– all of these create great student voice options the library can share!

This sounds cliche but I want them to remember the library as the place they could go for help-- a book, a game, a place to study, help with their Chromebook or a password reset, etc. I want the library to be welcoming. At the same time I want to work a little harder to be sure they also think of reading in a positive way when they think of the library. I honestly feel like the focus on reading has slipped some in the quest to do "all the things" and I want to reset my focus this year to center around reading. (Kendel)

This kind of seems like it is going against the topic of the book...but I want students to remember that libraries are full of all kinds of resources. One of my big goals this year is to increase programming. So I want more students involved in the programming. That way they can think of public libraries as places where they can explore personal interests...whether through books or programs.

I convinced my English Department (and admin) to do this book as a book study this summer! So we all have the books and will be meeting via Google Meet this summer to kick off independent reading. We are also purchasing a school Beanstack subscription for this year so that we can start tracking reading minutes! So I'm excited about this year and developing a culture of reading!
