Purpose of the author
2. How does the author define alternative modes of writing?
3. How does the author characterize dominant practices?
4. How do you react to the ideas put forward by the author?

1) The purpose of this author is to show us that there are many more varieties and sub-genres of the 'traditional' academic essay, analysis and dissertation than are commonly recognised. So we can put them in practice when writing an academic text.

2) According to the author, alternative modes of
writing are complementary and supplementary. He also emphasised that 'alternative'
does not mean opposed, they complement each other.

3) The author characterizes dominant practices as individual written works which are considered written products instead of writing processes. They are set texts and objects given and apparently both unchanging and unchangeable. Types of textual interventions and critical creative strategy are genuine alternatives to these dominant practices.

4) As regards the author’s ideas, we knew of the possibility of intervening texts but we had no idea about the theory and the different types of interventions. While reading the material, we found it really difficult to understand the concepts and new terms provided by the author since we had worked with the same concepts with different names before.
