I started with making a black box as a door and using the shape tool to create a head body and simplified braid with circles.

then I used the text tool to write down my message. I made it so that the words lead u into the question at the end making the word "scary" as bold as possible.

I thought about the political, literal, and impact of the word revolution then made a moodpboard for looking at the political side of revolution. this moodpboard is showcasing the black lives matters movement.

the final poster was a made to impact whoever is reading it as they pass by. with then use of big fonts it directs the eyes from the top to the question on the bottom. the girl asks ''I'm I really that scared?'' asking the reader what they feel about a child and that they should not feel scared of a human regardless of skin colour. she is hiding behind a wall because she has been shunned by society, peers and human rights. she wants to feel included but cannot because other humans are scared of her for her skin colour.

here I decided to look at the literal meaning of revolution which was circle motifs.

I then found the design aesthetic; Frutiger metro which uses circle motifs and bright colours.

using the circle and rotation tool I multiplied the amount of circles I have and rotated them to form spirals. this relates to the project evolution because the literally meaning of evolution is to be in a circular motion so making and looking at artists with circular motifs would be good for this theme.

then I made different circles and stars like seen in almost all Frutiger metro designs. making sure they are different in both size and color.

first I started with a textured gradient. using the txtue presets available in adobe illustrator.

then I used a pen tool to draw some curved shapes on another layer to give the viewer a sense of direction when looking at the picture.

then I found a picture of som ben-day dots, mostly used in comic and manga and decided to use it in the underlay of the picture to make it look more graphic.

and lastly I used a black and white picture of s woman to a dd on another layer. liked adding this cause it shows how the aesthetic is all about freedom and expression and one that was popular with the younger generation back then.

The theme given is revolution so first in started with a mood board showing my thoughts on the theme which shows my thought process. I wanted this project to show that I could think outside the box.

I looked at tracing and collaging in this next piece.

using different pictures if a magazine I traced women's legs. since legs can be a symbol of femininity and power I wanted to focus on that. the legs surrounding the bigger ones is used in a circular motion to draw attention to the ones in the middle.

here I drew circles and spirals with different mediums and methods such as oil pastels, pens, pencils and charcoal. with these material I was able to make colorful and interesting shapes. I liked this exercise cause it showed me the different ways of making spirals.

I looked at how advertising companies used this aesthetic in their marketing like for beauty products and tech advertising. because the aesthetic was directed to the mostly teen demographic ad companies decided to go wit this to promote their products. Sony was known mostly to use this design aesthetic.

then I also looked at how music artists used them on album covers. modern music artists like Charlie xcx used this aesthetic in her album "brat" which is inspired by the 2000s. the music genre, Vocaloid also used it on their posters and designs on their character Hatsune miku

music at that time was directed to the teen audience so it made sense that music producer would want to incorporate this design for their clients albums. it was vibrant, eye-catching and made for the time.

Frutiger metro is a sub-genre made in the early 2000s Its made of glossy textures, abstract flourishes, nature-inspired elements, gradient blocks, and bloom effects with a lot of circle motifs that tie into my theme. they found their way into various aspects of everyday life, internet culture, media, and corporate branding like in the music industry and product designs from 2004 to 2012. recently it is slowly making a comeback.

here is where I started making designs for this design aesthetic because I've never made this before so I wanted to give it a try to know how to develop this better.

Experimentation with other circular motifs

during a lesson I decided to experiment with circles to make an illustration on adobe illustrator using the blend tool and vibrant colours . It came out like this. I like how they came out because I only followed a tutorial on YouTube I found. the fact I've never done something like this before and was able to make something this vibrant and beautiful is something I found to be quite proud of. the contrast between the pink yellow and green is eye-catching and pleasing to look at.

experimenting with paint 1

here I was experimenting with making the distinct shapes of furtive metro with paint using different brushes and different shades of the paint.

doing this experiment made me see that I can use this method to refine my final piece. also trying out this design aesthetic on paper will give me a good understanding on how to achieve the Frutiger metro style.

the second one I made I used different colors to resemble wall graffiti and bleeding paint. I like this one because I love the way I was able to recreate the bleeding paint effect it gives the design a rough and graphic style.

I took both one of my paintings to turn it into a collage. using the painting I photocopied it induct out parts I needed, enlarged parts and stuck them together into a book. this was a very enjoyable process but I dont like the result because in order to reuse my art I have to photocopy which reduces the saturation and makes the piece look dull and less vibrant. I'm not sure might use this method later in my project.

I created thumbnail sketches for my blm posters I decided to pick between the two really liked. I ended up picking the one with the little girl. because I thought with the words it might make an impact on the reader.

this is one of the poster/ album cover that the band is going to use. it includes one of the bands favorite colors which is green. I made this using a gradient background and making a lot of different circles with different colors and arranging them. decreasing and playing with the opacities on the circles give a bubbly feeling when you look at it. the glare tool was also used to give a shiny lively feel to the picture too.

I added the silhouette into adobe illustrator and added wings and a halo just like the name of the band.

for the second now I wanted to make something more eye-catching and brighter. so I went with a green and pink gradient and pink and green circles and lower the opacity on most of them. I think k tis gives a dreamy and feminine look to the illustration.

this post is my favorite because I love how the colors compliment each other and how decreasing the opacity can change the vibe and feel of an illustration. this would be something i can see someone hang up in their rooms.

tour shirts research.

I looked at how bands or music artists design their world tour shirts. I decided screen printing would be best in transferring the designs onto the shirts. this process will make the prints look very clean and look really well polished.

I really love how they turned out they look vibrant and beautiful. they really reflect the vibe and aesthetic of the band.

I really like how everything came out.

for things I could have done better would have been to make at least 4 posters and used typography for the bands name on the posters. but I couldn't because of the amount of time I had left. this will be something I have will get better a in future projects.

for the shirts I would have loved to maybe screen printed the dates for the world tour on the back instead of writing them with fabric markers. I feel it would have been cleaner and more interesting that way.

over all they came out just like I visioned them in my planning stage.

I decided to create a fictional band that I will make merchandise of. the band I made is going to be called "angels at the disco" I thought of the name because it fits the whole Frutiger metro aesthetic.

I'm going to be making posters, album covers and and T-shirts.
