This is what our group started with, we spent around half the time deciding on a pose. We kind of struggled in communicating and agreeing on a pose to do. We also struggled with deciding how and where to start with the sculpture, eventually we communicated to agree on a pose and figure out how to start the sculpture. We laid out the foundation and structure of the pose.

The play for our group was deciding on a relatively easy pose to do and figure out where to start as I think that is the hardest because of all the ideas and different parts.

I think that the outcome of this task won't be anything crazy good or extraordinary, I think that our group will get it together and produce a relatively good and detailed sculpture.

This is the near-finish product of our group, you could say it's already finished. As we progressed, things got a lot more efficient and we worked and communicated together as a team to give each person a certain part to work on.

I was surprised at the end result of this lesson as my group nearly finished and made enormous progress from last class' 5 strands of tape. The end result also looked very good and sturdy with details. I was also surprised of how fast we progressed within 1 class basically work efficiency.

My definition of struggle & play changed in a positive way as we progressed we developed our problem solving and figuring out difficult detials for the scultpure.

But it got easier the more I did it.

My sketch of slide 6 on that lesson's slideshow best represents my use of line and shapes as I felt smooth as I drew and the results came out good fortunately.

This practice could help a lot throughout my drawings in the future as this would easily give me a better foundation for every one of my future drawings so I could proceed better from here on out.

For my comfort zone, I wrote lines, value and texture because I understand those elements the most thoroughly and could best visualize those elements in a drawing, along with explaining what they mean.

In my risk zone, I wrote shape and color because I'm not a good artist myself so in my drawings my use of shapes and how I express them is weak. For colors I am confident in describing colors and explaining the category they are in but I'm weak at memorizing mixing colors.

In my danger zone I wrote form and space because with my bad representing skills, I'm not good at recreating forms or breaking down forms that makes up a drawing. Space to me is a bit confusing as I don't understand it too well nor could I use it effectively in my drawings.

For example, different tools would produce a different line, shape, texture or distribution since each tool has a different way of utilizing. Which is perfect for expressing different feelings and mood, adding life to the artwork with varieties of lines, value and space. Depending on your mood, you could use a certain tool to express it based on how connected you feel towards the tool and your feelings, to me this could express that but to you that could express this.

Process and reflection:

The decisions we made on which ones to control or scatter varied, such as our use of color where we decided to control it in order to take advantage off the vary of space which adding colors could produce. Another example is how we scattered lines rather than controlling it. The media that we select could expand these choices as it gives us more unique ways to do both these things with certain elements.

I had a lot more confident in my lines because I knew what was aiming for which directly impacts my focus because there was a goal to achieve which helped me work more efficiently and confidently.

Starting with a positive shape contour and then layering gesture drawing helped me capture proportions by giving me the direct size of how large my drawing should be and exactly how much space to work with and recreate. It helped me capture movement by keeping my classmate in a fixed pose and from there I could recreate the different "sectors" of my classmate. Finally, it helped me with capturing the personality of my classmate by knowing their characteristics and appearance.

While adding details with a reference photo I balanced accuracy with creativity by still recreating details but in my own style and frequency as in keeping the consistency within how much details I add throughout the entire portrait therefore making my final outcome better.

How I chose to combine the 3 skills together into one drawing consists of a "trial and error" procedure where I would test and play around with my chosen methods to come up with a theme and to see if it looks good in my own opinion in order to select how my proportions would look like.

Changes I made includes the aftermath of the my drawing of chosen skills, choosing what to do with it next and detailing so that it fits into my theme.

The media I have chosen so far for my project includes mainly charcoal and drawing pen. The process consists of creating the base/foundation of my drawing my seperating my drawing into 2 sections(sea and sky), doing so with the drawing pen and then covering the surface of it with charcoal and then smearing with my finger to give it a fine and fading texture whilst making certain areas darker and some lighter to create a depth effect. The other part of my process is drawing a blind contour of my peer and then using that to lead to a desired shape/drawing using gesture drawing with a photo example. I decided to work with these medias because I'm more into art works using dark colors so I want to use them as an inspiration for my artwork whilst giving it different textures and have differing values across the artwork.

I had to revise giving my artwork a smooth texture for a certain section and switch between different values espicially for my sea section where I had to be consistent with the texture and give it differing values by making certain parts darker and some lighter. I had to adjust the upper section of my artwork as leaving my sky a blank white color would make it lack completetion so I had to improvise by creating a dark sky and then later giving it a unique texture. I had to problem solve when I messed up with the placement of my blind contour drawing, placing it a tad bit too high above my sea-line making me unable to go with my original idea of turning it into a gesture drawing of a ship. I improvised and tried my best to solve it by turning it into something else that matches the theme.

So far the process has remained relatively the same compared to last class except for adding a rough texture to the sky, smoothen out the charcoal in my sea and add differing values using an eraser, along with adding colors in my negative space created between my contour drawing(the moon) and my blind contour drawing(the island).

I plan to finish off my artwork with 3 last steps which is making my sky darker so that it could contrast as much as possible compared to the sea so that it doesn't seem "boring". The second step is smearing more oil pastel onto my blind contour, creating a splash effect with the color from my negative space. The last step is to use a little dark blue to give my sea more color also using oil pastel, distributing it evenly.

I could potentially become more comfortable with these elements by implementing them over and over again as practice to learn how to incorporate them into my art and therefore help me use these elements confidently for my art. A possible step that I could take to limit my hesitation to using the 6 elements risky elements I have is to remember that there is no right or wrong in art and I am still exploring so I could play around with them without risking anything in order to get more comfortable with them and reduce hesitation at the same time.

For my drawing above I chose to represent 2 principles of design which are balance and repetition, both comfort zone principles for me because of my ability to recognize and deliver these 2 principles within artworks. This card exercise really helped me with a perspective of an artist where I could link real experiences to these principles themselves. Reinforcing my understanding and recognition of these 2. Firstly, I recalled an experience of my own at an auto mechanic where jacks are used to lift cars, it forms the repetition of the letter X which I incorporated in my drawing to represent both repetition and to build a foundation for the main focus of my art which are the letter V's that represents balance and on top of them is roughly the symbol for Ohm which I figured out after playing around with the letter n for a bit to gather ideas for my interpretation of balance.

Whilst focusing on the negative space of my drawing, the process of it helped me with figuring out the proportions for objects by slowly forming together certain shapes and curves for one area at a time and from the shapes formed fill out more space to create the complete image with negative space.

Techniques from unit 1 that I found useful during the process of creating negative space drawing is mark making because for my process I can't just fill in all the space I need to create the object at once but rather slowly fill in space and stop to inspect if the shapes and areas are coming along well. Mark making from unit 1 really developed this skill of mine to be more precise. Simplifying things into black and white helped me with the composition and principles of design by assisting in identifying the potential strokes and areas that could be formed when creating normally.

I had forgotten to take pictures of my sketches before the final piece.

I used positive and negative space to create balance by calculating correct placement in the distances between the positive cut out and the negative space left behind, having shapes and lines directly contrast each other with a balanced space in between them.

With positive and negative space I created visual interest to viewers by emptying out the positive space as much as I can to my liking and also use creative non-geometric shapes to create a sense of diversity when looking at it. I also added layers and lines within the shapes to apply more contrast to the piece, complimenting the visuals of the piece.

The ideas and concepts behind Notan(contrast, balance, push/pull of shapes) could influence my future artworks by highlighting the aesthetic that different aspects brings by working together with the limited space, so that different areas, shapes and lines that uses different aspects to create visual interest are able to compliment each other. Therefore inspiring me to detail my future artworks much further than currently, use a variety of techniques, lines, shapes to create visual interest and perfect my placement as well as decision-making on which aspects to emphasize in order for the aesthetic of the piece to be seen clearly.

For my sketches of the invisible city of Ersillia, I incorporated multiple lines overlapping each other to represent the density in houses/buildings in the city, connected lines from one point to another, mostly from the top border to corners of the shapes created and explored variety of shapes as different roofs or curvatures of different buildings bunched together to create a sort of town with a well-established number of buildings and designs. I also stacked multiple lines on top of each other in visible darker areas in the sketches to create detailed visuals of old buildings.

My use of space in this sketch could've been improved a lot by establishing a dense number of buildings through filling in blank space and that would also contribute to creating a front and back view designs. My use of overlapping creates the illustion of depth from one house to another as they're covered in many lines stretching accross every corner of the houses and borders to establish the strings being in different areas of the town. To exercise my notan through these sketches I incorporated multiple shapes as well as where each start and end to create a sense of density and balance as different buildings sit on top of each other nicely.

I incorporated principles such as variety, repetition and proportions through stacking shapes on top of each other and apply different curvatures as roofs of different buildings to have diversity. Repeating the strings as described in the story throughout my whole

The design I will show my groupmate is the front view design, though it is a recreation of what I had came up with it revolves around the same theme of an abandoned mideieval town the moment I read to passage. There is also diversity and details to the front view sketch and I think the theme of medieval times works pretty well for this Ersillia

Sophia drafted the left side view and the front view while I drafted the back view(middle) and right side view(to the right of the middle).

After sharing ideas with my groupmate, her theme focused on more of a modern civilization design where there are tall buildings and multiple modern day houses designs but still holds the same density similar to mine. We agreed on Sophia's modernized theme rather than my medieval theme because we agreed that it would be easier to make a sculpture of a city full of buildings with less detailings unlike medieval where we have to appear aged, and her design includes more geometric shapes which would be easier to make. Lastly, a part I missed from the passage was how a part of the city was just support beams for old houses covered in strings and her concept of it was to have those support beams hold up a platform for the city itself which I really liked.

So far there has been no unexpected surprise whilst working on this project, we have shared a lot of ideas and visions we have for the sculpture and we were partly pleasantly surprised at how well we were cooperating with shared visions and ideas so that we could immediately visualize how to form an element when discussed. For example we had a discussion about how the main buildings would look and in her illustration there was an unfinished building in progress and we talked about how to assemble it, as well as the materials needed and how we would make each elements such as supports beams and layers and we clicked on that fast.

Some possible extra materials we came up with are string/yarn to create strings all throughout the city covering buildings, popsicle sticks as layers for unfinished building and a spray paint that has a cream/cement color for all the details.

By starting off the lesson with the recreating texture challenge it impacted my use of material in today's class by thinking more about what texture I want to achieve for each section of my sculpture and how I'm gonna obtain that texture. I thought about different materials I could use or the proccess I could do before, during or after assembling have diversity in texture in order to make my sculpture really come to life in depicting a fictional city.

I ensure that all voices and ideas between me and my partner are heard and seen by understanding what each other is trying to communicate and what they're trying to achieve. For example, we listened to each other's ideas and visions on the sculpture, though we don't have to necessarily agree with everything and incorporate them all into the construction we still clearly understand what each other is looking for/describing. After understanding the idea, I take the suggestion into consideration and compare it with the idea that I currently have to visualize whether it'll fit into the sculpture or not.

I am planning to apply different textures to my sculpture by exploring with different tools and medias on one same surface to see what effect it has on it and pick out one type of texture that will fit a certain area of my sculpture and therefore add that use of media into the process. For small details like windows and visibly appearing things or maybe elements that repeat I plan to apply those after I have cut out and gathered all the needed material for assembling. Finally for finishing touches which I plan for there to be little of would be done by observing the sculpture and comparing it with the image I had in mind at first or ask for opinions from my peers to see what small details I could improve on the outside.

Before today's lesson, I usually jumped right into drawings with immediately tracing the outline of the subject and then would start shading by filling in dark and gradually apply lighter and lighter force to apply gradient, as well as smear it as much as I could to make blend look smooth. when outline is complete. For todays warm up of making a sphere out of a circle, though I of course had to start with the outline but for shading I went with a very light crescent that blends with the outline in the middle of the circle and gradually make my way to to end of the circle whilst applying harder force and more charcoal in order to get a smooth blend. And then for the main activity of capturing the shadows of objects, I started off in around the center and eventually go in circles outwards.

A step in the process that was very familiar to me was smearing charcoal to make the space around the subject and the entire space used in the drawing through gradient.

There are also a lot of times where I would get my measurements wrong or didn't cut straight and that leaves a lot of cracks and opens within the sculpture. These challenges are within my control as eventually I got more consistent with getting pieces together. As of now I will have to add heigh and emphasis on the main structure in the middle, as well as spray paint my entire sculture black to detail with white paint and top off with white yarn as white strings in the magic city

With shadow it makes the object come to life on a piece of paper, creating a 3 dimensional effect to the eyes to create volume and texture to the drawing. With all the different form in each side, corner or center it mainly secures the shape of the drawing so that there is texture and space.

A success that I had during this activity was my recreation of the objects shape, texture and space within as I felt that my pencil glided smoothly as I glanced at the photo not quite many times, all it took was a bit of patient and polishing for the drawing to come out realistic with visible elements.

This was my final selected photo of my invisible city's sculpture after enhancing using AI and increasing value.

This image best represented my invisible city of Ersillia, matching the theme of a gloomy black and white with strings stretched across structures(Not many visible since this is cropped of original). The aging of structures is also visible through the texture and assembling of cardboard, best representing the ran-down ghost like city. The overall mood of this photo is damp and gloomy presented through a dark setting with yet simplicity within details and structures. When given without context, the connotation for this image is a clear casual, gloomy night of some given neighborhoods around the world. This image provides a sense of calm to me where it reminds me of the realization that each person is living their very own life and has things to deal with as shown through the different human figures throughout different levels within this image, it seems like this is more of a capture of a moment where everything is simplistic rather than an illustration of elements.

Just through the looks of my drawing, someone could tell what the surface would feel like through the density in lines within that space. For example, for wood texture I used contour lines and a handful of curved lines and circles to form a natural looking looking and most realistic sense to something like a tree bark. There isn't much lines or anything going on on the surface of the wood, suggesting it is a natural minimally smooth surface with cracks and patterns that is carved into the wood so more like cracks throughout that front surface. On the other surfaces of the same wood texture you could see that I have more density in lines within a space using contour lines to show details and realistictivity for the texture that presents a natural texture with a bumpy surface.

In contrast with the wood texture, all the other blocks have much denser amount of lines in an area, this could suggest a darker valued area with more detail and patterns on a surface. Based off the bottom 2 cubes, you could come to the conclusion that they have a lot more texture, is a lot more bumpy and detailed within the texture by looking at the slightly repetitive patterns with differnt sizes and lengths which is what gives the cube a realistic look with varients of shades on the surface and repeptiive texture

For example, I could recreate lines, shadows and unique shapes by using different tools with a splatter of ink, I could manipulate the ink easily into the shape and value I want of that section to be which makes it a viable media that I plan on using.

I had a few occasions where I took the risk of experimenting with new things that challenged myself such as diluting ink to manipulate value in an area, the spreading of ink differently in different areas to produce different shades. The exploration I enjoyed the most was mixing media to produce different shades and values, specifically, I combined usage of white charcoal, charcoal and ink differently in certain areas to get the desired shadow and blend.

One thing that surprised me the most was how well white charcoal and ink could be combined for a blend and I learned how to vary the amount of each material I use in different areas to achieve the wanted look and value.

These explorations and findings will impact my final drawing directly since I'll be implying everything I learned to achieve a look that is best made with as much materials. The most significant trouble that I came across during exploration was the risk that I could easily mess something up while working with ink and it'll be irreversible, but this is a risk I'm willing to take since I could produce a good final drawing and expand on creativity by improvising if a mistake is made.

I felt that this time used for further experimentation and testing was beneficial as it significantly helped me gain more confidence in using ink as a material for my final piece, I practically spent my time "mastering" ink and expanding the techniques and styles I could use with ink alone and merging charcoal.

For my final paper, I plan on starting with blocking in basic structural forms of my whole city as it is layered and I want to utilize proportions and shading to express the "distance" of a subject from the eye. I mapped out the values I needed throughout all layers of my drawing with my usage of ink layering and spreading it to create natural shapes and texture.

By today's class I have finished sketching all details and structure. One skill that I was able to apply with success was applying gesture drawing to block in whilst expressing proportions of different subjects within the foreground, middleground and background. As it is visible these marks are only simple lines and shapes that I incorporated mainly throughout the drawing to capture structures of buildings and minor subjects.

An area that I experienced growth in was stroke-consistency throughout the whole drawing where minor details didn't matter while sketching so I allowed my pen to glide accordingly to my estimates of the different values, lines and shapes of different subjects. I say this because I see no area that appears visible significant detail missing or no area that stands out significantly from others based on density of lines in that area. I could improve this skill by doing further work with my drawing whilst freely expressing elements in different areas through my strokes and values. While still keeping room for improvement but cautious of "mistakes" that could happen but rather than being afraid, I'm more open to getting a result I don't desire to cross out techniques that aren't effective to me and what I could incorporate in order to achieve what I want.

This was my progress after the 2nd workday. Elements that were most relevant to my artwork includes space where I keep in mind the positive and negative space that I create and how they contribute to the recreation of my invisible city by setting the mood to my artwork through the amount of space in between subjects within my artwork and the dimensions of every structure, which ultimately gives the artwork a chaotic and lively representation or a calm and simple one. Other elements I had to keep in mind that was relevant was mostly value because this was what determined the form of every structure in my drawing through giving it a three-dimensional sense.

Main principles that was significant to my drawing includes unity, movement, proportion and a little bit of emphasis. Where unity has to do with incorporating all my strokes together using lines and shapes to create a sense of unity in overall structure and space within my drawing. Practically how well all my strokes and shapes comes together to create and fill in different areas of my piece. Movement was also a principle I took into a lot of consideration and was something that I focused on incorporating the most in my piece. Through my work I wanted it to capture a moment in a city where nothing is out of the ordinary with buildings, lights and figures in sight, seemingly creating a regular calming sensation to the eye which incorporates movement of an entire city being captured in one frame. Proportion and emphasis also comes in pretty significantly as a good expression of proportions is needed to incorporate unity and movement as it appears more as capturing multiple stories at the same time using the layered structure of my city. Emphasis was relevant since there is a lot of contrast and visible shining bright lights within my city and joining different techniques and media such as white charcoal and water could be utilized to express light, where what I did was thickly layered white where light sources were and gradually fade into the negative space of the city. Taking these elements and principles into deep consideration helped me significantly in progressing and helped bring my ideas onto paper by determining how well each element could be incorporated using certain techniques.

This was my progress after today's studio time. I was hoping to get the whole of middle ground(2nd layer) completed but I didn't want to progress systematically and result in unwanted outcomes so I focused on the details of making structures come to life and appear realistic. I was proud of my incorporation of different techniques and media to achieve a realistic three-dimensional form for my buildings. I merged a lot more usage of ink, charcoal and white charcoal with a technique I really enjoyed of dense lines of white charcoal in bright areas and gradually decrease the amount of white lines as the subject is further away from the light source but still include them onto the negative space as to ensure a smooth shade and gradient effect. I also emphasized outlines of buildings and structures throughout my drawing to incorporate value in creating a best defined three dimensional look.

This is my progress so far as we approach finishing. I've taken a lot of steps in order to make revisions to my work which I am satisfied of, these steps includes adjusting shadow values in certain areas and blending of white and black charcoal, I've also made more emphasizes throughout my drawing with bright white strings, figures and light sources which satisfied me since it created a lot more contrast in my piece which was perfect in representing my city on paper with its overall look. A visible mistake that I made was using this whiteout like pen which I forgot but this shook me a bit as I was upset with how it worsened the look of my background and foreground but I used it to my advantage to further emphasize light sources and its effect on the nearby spaces. This helped me expand my techniques and styles where a specific one was I discovered a technique when my brush ran out of ink on it which created these inconsistent strokes that left uncolored spots on the paper, and I used this as a shading technique that used the paper's original smooth and bland color and slowly stack dense lines to create shadows and leave more inconsistent strokes as it approaches a light source. I really like this technique because I think it looks natural and fitting to the overall theme of my drawing. In general, I am also critically analyzing my drawing where I constantly look back at what I've just put on my paper and think how I could make it better or look how I want it to.

Our gesture drawing unfortunately only had 1 visitor but everything turned out well, maybe even exceeded our expectations as we didn't have enough time to practice our presentation and actual teaching but it still turned out smooth and went accordingly to our planning. We first introduced gesture drawing to Kevin(even though he had a gesture drawing shift right after us), we distributed speech evenly among the 3 of us and we explained the idea of gesture drawing really well. We then moved on to practice and Bond joined Kevin in doing gesture drawing excercises, it varied from easy to hard models as the time limit gradually increases along with it. We then ended with free drawing practice using Gesture drawing with no time limit whilst giving Kevin feedback, mostly being positive. Something we would want to further improve in our workshop is provide more examples for students to examine.

Link to Presentation: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1kbFWwFoBMdFlWywgjUUOmxQ_OBeR0cnqbtdh6mhMjfg/edit?slide=id.g3d0c1900078_0_36#slide=id.g3d0c1900078_0_36

For my topic of my creative project that I wanna express is a Casual city night-life that, and through my art which I wanna incorporate multiple usage of media, combining multiple medias together to achieve different aspects such as shadows, contrast and different values. I will decide on my materials once I've done media exploration and determine which medias are the most optimal for expressing my topic and incorporating different styles and techniques. For how I came up with my topic I mainly based if off our most recent work of value drawing, because in that piece I captured a moment in my city with movement expressed through shadows and contrast along with the concept of sonder, essentially means that every person/passerby observed has a separate and vivid life going on different from all other, and I love the concept of capturing that in action within one piece. From there, I remembered the style of vignette in literature which means a capture of the moment, from there I expand into the still life photos that we practiced and also photo editing to do value drawing, producing shadows and varying values in different areas.

For today's experimentation I had some plans in mind for what I was gonna do for my final project, to prepare for it I came back to our last project of value drawing to reapply some concepts and techniques I used. For this time I wanted to use a wider variety of media with the goal of producing a more exciting piece that doesn't just revolve around 3 medias throughout the whole drawing so I tried out new medias for certain areas to see what I could achieve for different shadows and values. This class ended up being a mix of experimentation and practice of previous techniques which helped jogged my memory on achieving value and helped me a lot with expressing space within the drawing.

This was my progress after today's studio time, most of class was spent editing the reference photo I chose to create more value variety and shadows, based off of the space within the photo and whether or not there is movement going on with the photo captured in order to best represent the idea of a "vignette" that I want to capture. I then spent the rest of class setting up my paper by measuring, cutting and applying masking tape. From there, I got started with tracing using carbon paper.

For today's studio time almost all of the time was spent on finishing my trace, the rest of the time was to add small details across the drawing to give everything more depth and space, more details also makes the drawing much more refined and realistic which perfectly represents how I want to express my drawing, making it look like a capture in a moment. As I learned form my last time using carbon paper, I constantly checked on my tracing progress to make sure everything is aligned and traced down because I learned to push harder with my pen so that it would actually go through the carbon paper, onto the brown paper. I sought feedback from Mr. Larson when I didn't know where to start as of next studio time, from there I knew to fill in larger areas first with different values first to express space. The only mistake I made all throughout my process was when I measured and cut out the brown paper, making it smaller than I was planning so I had to adjust by squeezing in a lot more lines and shapes by moving the brown paper itself along with the carbon paper so I could control where I trace my pen, making it seem more condensed which did make it more difficult afterwards.

I consider my progress to be slow speaking of today's studio time because I spent too much time fixing and adjusting certain spots repeatedly because it was bugging me that I couldn't get it to look similar to my previous drawing so I mixed and merged along with refining many times to get the value and contrast that I'm looking for. I've thought about what's gonna be my next steps to appraching the finish of my drawing and some skills that will reappear are some from the previous unit such as hatching, cross-hatching and other shading techniques but adding more creativity to it as I'll be using ink for the majority.

Letter to Kevin Tran.

The purpose of this letter is to address the 4 minute figure drawing exercise based on planned activities we had prepared for our students. Starting off, for this exercise you used a standard 0.5mm Artline drawing pen to produce all your quick sketches for practice of using figure drawing, you blocked in the shape with precise strokes and then redefined the lines and shapes you made by roughly adding more strokes and lines that varied in length and curve to produce a proper natural figure drawing sketch that captures the basic shapes rather than focus on details. A specific artistic choice you chose that I found unique and effective was not focusing on the broad patterns of the reference photo to create different values in certain areas but rather you purposely leave spaces open and others with dense lines, this ultimately helped greatly in creating depth to your drawing that brings it to life, looking like the space within the figure of the reference photo, with this technique, you didn't just apply strokes to recreate what you saw, you perceived it in your own way and produced an efficient technique to represent it with your techniques. These techniques also brought texture and form to your drawing, making it look far more realistic with those techniques creating depth and space. These techniques you used could connect to your realistic perception of art that also focuses on capturing something rather than recreating with precision, using varying strokes and lines to form shapes and depth to your drawing also reflects your prior experiences with expressing value as you produced a drawing with a clearly expressed idea of what was trying to be achieved with only a short time and rough, quick strokes.

As you are also a presenter at the figure drawing station, both posters from both groups were brought together to the station placed upright next to each other with a clear view for all visitors(refer to previous dragon made padlet), after the activities all products(roughly 8-9 sketches) were placed standing upright barely overlapping each other at the foot of the 2 posters to aesthetically display products/sketches created, which also doubled as exemplars for our station. Personally, I was deeply satisfied with how your sketches perfectly represented each stages of our planned activities accordingly to the time limit you had for each one, your sketches looked very sharp and precise and I was proud to display those pieces as exemplars of our station. Your style of art that included perceiving the art creatively to create unique depth and space referencing photos inspired me to perceive art in a more unique way that allows more flow of strokes and freedom in lines and shapes to best represent something. Keep it up with your good work! You used figure drawing perfectly so you may graduate from our station, always come back to it when you don't know where to start on a drawing!

For today's work time that I spent outside of class I was able to fill in bigger areas and express the space within the photo by shading and blending using various techniques but mostly using hatching since I think it is the most fitting technique for my style of art and how I want to blend. Apart from filling in bigger areas in my drawing I also used different values to express space in a sense of getting further from the viewer's eyes, I also incorporated proportions to express the space between figures in my drawing. Besides these aspects for today's work time I also worked on developing contrast throughout the drawing to give an emphasis on some areas in order to make the piece not plain and boring. Whilst thinking of how I could apply contrast in my drawing I remembered about Notan and how it's all about contrast and symmetry and that would be fitting of my style so I implemented it for one of my structures, even though it didn't turn out perfect nor do I love it but I think it's an interesting addition to the drawing to give it more unity.

For today's work time I focused on filling in the background and some minor details to my drawing, I also decided to add my own shadows along with add more contrast to my drawing by filling in figures as sillohouette, in that way the figures could also be an emphasis that hits the eyes immediately when looking at the drawing, to incorporate shadows and proportions even more I gave the sillohouettes in the background shadows with a rough texture along with varying values, giving the drawing more contrast and produces a still-life sense in the moment that perfectly represents how I want to capture a moment. I also implemented an old technique I used that involves contrast to give it form to make it look 3D.

Final Product - June 8th

To finish off my final drawing I spent today's work time to refine lines in both foreground and background to make everything seem clearer and pop out more, making 3D shapes appear more realistic and clear since the drawing is already condensed with a lot of lines and shapes, redefining lines helps separate structures form each other so that it appears easier to look at and not messy.

After redefining lines I wanted details to match with the original image more so I coated surfaces of structures with a darker shade using a mixture of ink and white charcoal. After that, I worked on the very small. details and patterns on the surfaces of structures, I did so by carving ink using the pointy end of a stick for thin lines and precise curves. This was the most challenging part for me as I was very nervous that I would mess up while trying to recreate details with ink and it'd be irreversible. Though, I overcame this challenge and used ink to add minor details regardless and the risks I'm prone to since I realized that my interpretation of the reference photo doesn't have to look exactly like it line by line since then it would be even harder to create small details and patterns because using ink to recreate them wouldn't give me precise recreation. Since charcoal fades really easily even if it's resting your wrist on it to draw, I also spent some time reshading parts faded making the drawing pop out more along with express space more clearly with the ideal texture interpretated, restating a sense of space and direction further.

In general, I am quite satisfied with my final product as I was really dedicated to a specific art style and spent a lot of time working and refining it. I also really like the idea I'm trying to express of capturing a moment, almost like a still-life drawing but doing so in black and white gives me opportunities to imply prior techniques learnt such, mostly shading techniques. I also enjoyed using contrast to express form and shape as I think it gives a really nice emphasis on certain parts of my drawing, for example using Notan to apply contrast along with prior techniques, making my final product more unique. Though I think I still could've further improved my drawing my improving techniques and further planning + experimentation to map out exactly my proccess in order to avoid mistakes and unwanted outcomes using unideal media or techniques.
