The Lyceum

The Lyceum is the oldest building on campus and me and a few of my pledge brothers went to explore it. we planned on just looking around for a short amount of time, We did not expect to find so many cool relics and trophies that were scattered around the building, we only went to get out of house hours but we were happily surprised with what we found. In this phot I am wearing an autographed Ole Miss football chair and I am sitting in the chancellors office. we found the helmet on the desk and knew we had to get pictures with it. We also saw the baseball national championship trophy, and many old relics from hundreds of years ago. We spent about two hours searching through the building trying to look at what ever we could, but it just seemed endless, there were so many items on display that were shocking to see. All together the Lyceum was an awesome place to explore, and I will defiantly be spending more time in there over my next four years here.

The Groove

This picture is from before the first football game and was the first time I was in the groove for a gameday. I am standing next to one of my pledge masters, the reason I asked him for a picture was because I knew my mom would think his overalls are funny and I wanted to send her a picture of it. The groove is an enjoyable place, but not for me, I strongly dislike the groove. The groove gets way too crowded and the ground gets completely destroyed every weekend. The worst part of the groove is the people, the upperclassmen always seem to get to drunk and the way they act is very immature. I personally do not like the rowdiness and yelling that comes with being in the groove. Also, I have to wear a suit in the groove which makes it very hot and uncomfortable to be standing in the sun for hours at a time. The bright side of the groove for me is all my pledge brothers being with me and our dates showing up to the tent is always a nice surprise. In conclusion, the groove is an amazing tailgating spot, but it is not one of my favorite traditions on campus.

Kappa Kappa Gamma date party

This photo is of me and my best friend mason, we both got invited to the Kappa Kappa Gamma date party at Harrisons. The theme of the party was Locke and key, so the girls made key shaped necklaces with their names on it. The Locke and key party is one of the oldest traditions for Kappa so the party was a big deal for them and we could tell, This date party was bigger and better than any date party I have gone to that was hosted by a fraternity. Kappa did a great job hosting, there were more people and louder music than any other parties I have gone to. I spent most of the night talking to my pledge brothers, Mason, and I danced with my date for a while. Overall this was the best date party I have ever gone to, and if Kappa hosts anymore events I will be sure to be there. The best part of the night was being able to experience I with one of my best friends by my side.

This football game was the first time I have been in attendance at a high level college football game. Football is much bigger here than it is back home so seeing the sheer amount of people at the game and in the student section was awesome. The game ended in disappointment as I saw Ole Miss lose for the first time, after the game the demeanor of all the fans showed me how much people really care about the team. I have never lived somewhere where the school teams are so important and it was to feel that camaraderie, even if we all came together because of the loss. In this photo I am sitting with my pledge class before the game started in order to save seats for the actives that came later, which sounds like it sucks but sitting there is actually really fun. Saving seats gives us time to talk, yell at the players, and just relax as we wait for time to pass. Overall, even though the game was a disaster I had a great time watching the game and I finally got to experience what the S.E.C is all about.

KD Quesadilla

This was at Kappa Delta's philanthropy event, where for ten dollars you got to go inside the KD house and eat unlimited quesadillas with all of the sorority girls. This was the first time I have ever been inside of a sorority house, the house was massive and my jaw dropped as soon as I walked in. The fraternity houses are no where close to how beautiful their home was. Me and four of my pledge brothers went together, and we met so many new people and got to talk with a lot of the KD girls about their philanthropy and how it works. However, the quesadillas were not very good and they only had one option, they also had a quest cheese fountain, which was good in theory but it just ended up breaking shortly after we arrived. The picture above displays the mariachi band that came and played for us, they were honestly the highlight of the event and them being there definitely made the event one to remember. All in all the event was very enjoyable and seeing the sorority house was astonishing, if there are any other sorority philanthropy events I will definitely be attending.
