One example is asking for help. Culturally I've learned that asking for help means white people get in your family business. I ask for help when I really need it. I try to figure a problem out before asking for help. If I ask for help too much, then I'm considered unable to do my job or accused of incompetence. I learned to not tell my story. This is the strategy that works for me. I just stay quiet. It doesn't serve me well to explain and be honest. Ironically, my supervisor then says I'm honest because I don't tell her all my business.
