Song Lyrics- Survivor by Destiny's Child

In this song Destiny's Child conveys the idea that "she" is stronger and overall happier by herself compared to with her love interest. Some lyrics that express parallelism to the expert "Self-Reliance" by Emerson are "Now that you're out of my life, I'm so much better. You thought that I'd be weak without you, but I'm stronger". These lyrics mimic Emerson's idea to "Ne te quaesiveris extra (Seek no one besides yourself)".

Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks was a great person who contributed to society but was misunderstood in her time. She was considered to be the first lady of civil rights and the mother of the freedom movement. Not many were courageous enough to stand up for equal rights for African Americans. She became well known for her decision to resist giving up her seat on a bus for a white passenger in the "colored section" after the whites-only section was filled. While at the time she was criticized for "civil disobedience" she later became a respected leader in her movement.

Could a society of individuals exist?

I do not believe that such a society can exist because it is in human nature to seek acceptance from our peers. It is in human nature to want to be "cool" like someone else. Everyone has insecurities and most attempt to rid themselves of said insecurities by mimicking something or someone they admire or like. Therefore, I think it would be next to impossible to create a totally individualistic society.
