         <description><![CDATA[<p><br></p><p>Beginning: 1885</p><p>End: 1963</p><p>What happened?:1944 Kenya became the first East African territory to include an African on its Legislative Council. The number was increased to two in 1946, four in 1948, and eight in 1951, although all were appointed by the governor from a list of names submitted by local governments. This, however, did not satisfy African demands for political equality.One such group, which advocated a violent approach, became known as the <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="md-crosslink" href="https://www.britannica.com/topic/Mau-Mau">Mau Mau</a>. The actions attributed to the Mau Mau caused the colonial government to proclaim a state of emergency from October 1952 until 1960 and also resulted in a massive relocation of Africans, particularly <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" class="md-crosslink" href="https://www.britannica.com/topic/Kikuyu">Kikuyu</a>.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Beginning: 1918</p><p><br/></p><p>End: Dec. 2013</p><p><br/></p><p>What happened?:nelson madela helped with south african freedom he frist worked as a coal miner but then went to afirm he joined the African National Congress in 1944 when he helped to form the ANC Youth League (ANCYL).Mandela rose through the ranks of the ANCYL and through its efforts, the ANC adopted a more radical mass-based policy, the Programme of Action, in 1949.In 1952 he was chosen as the National Volunteer-in-Chief of the Defiance Campaign with Maulvi Cachalia as his deputy. This campaign of civil disobedience against six unjust laws was a joint programme between the ANC and the South African Indian Congress. He and 19 others were charged under the Suppression of Communism Act for their part in the campaign and sentenced to nine months of hard labour, suspended for two years.</p><p><br/></p><p>Important people we should know?: Mandela Effect</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Beginning:Apr 7, 1994 </p><p><br/></p><p>End:Jul 15, 1994</p><p><br/></p><p>What Happened:bout 85% of Rwandans are Hutus but the Tutsi minority has long dominated the country. In 1959, the Hutus overthrew the Tutsi monarchy and tens of thousands of Tutsis fled to neighbouring countries, including Uganda.</p><p>A group of Tutsi exiles formed a rebel group, the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), which invaded Rwanda in 1990 and fighting continued until a 1993 peace deal was agreed.</p><p>On the night of 6 April 1994 a plane carrying then-President Juvenal Habyarimana, and his counterpart Cyprien Ntaryamira of Burundi - both Hutus - was shot down, killing everyone on board.Neighbours killed neighbours and some husbands even killed their Tutsi wives, saying they would be killed if they refused.</p><p>At the time, ID cards had people's ethnic group on them, so militias set up roadblocks where Tutsis were slaughtered, often with machetes which most Rwandans kept around the house.</p><p>Thousands of Tutsi women were taken away and kept as sex slaves.</p><p><br/></p><p>Important People To Know:Hutu militias. </p>]]></description>
