Introduction

These books I think made a big impact on me because they helped make me who I am today. At first I only liked reading short books and picture books but when I got into third grade that's when it changed because that's when I read my first chapter book that I actually liked. I always thought I was a really slow reader and I was self conscious about that but when I read The Cay I actually enjoyed reading it and I realized the reason I couldn't read that fast was because I didn't like the books I was reading so I didn't have the proper motivation. Not only that but I liked reading these books because they were relatable. When I felt I couldn't relate to anyone I would read and I realized there were people who felt the things I did.

The Tiger Who Came to Tea

The tiger that came to tea was my favorite book as a child for multiple reasons. One was because my grandpa would read it to me before I went to bed and also because the main character's name was actually Sophie. But I think the biggest reason is because I had a stuffed animal my mom gave me when I was 4. I was sick one time and ever since then I cherished Tigey (that's what I named him :D) so I guess that led to my love of everything to do with tigers.
By the way I still sleep with Tigey to this day. He's my best friend :)

Lily and Dunkin

I read Lily and Dunkin for the first time in sixth grade and it resonated with me because I could relate to both Lily and Dunkin. One reason is, my mom has Bipolar Disorder just like Dunkin. I can relate to Lily because she is transgender and so am I, and just like her my parents don't approve and similar to her, I have known for 4 years but my parents are still convinced its a phase and that I will get over it. A quote that was also very meaningful to me was “When someone makes you suffer, it's because his own pain is spilling over,” This wasn't important because it was relatable but because it just had so much meaning and helped me understand everybody, regardless of their actions, has emotions like everyone else.

The Cay

I read The Cay in 3rd grade and the reason it means something to me is because it was the first chapter book I really loved. I guess it gave me self confidence because I was always the last to finish books in book clubs because I was slow and never really liked reading. Because I liked this book it was easier to read therefore I read it faster.
A quote that was significant to me was “Very few battles are ever fought exactly as planned.”
I absolutely loved this because it is so relatable. I have fought many battles in my life (metaphorical, just in case you were worried) and that quote is applicable to almost everyone.

I read this book because of how much I loved the movies. What was great about this book was how authentic it was and how it took you to a whole other world. This book was significant to me because I was never a fan of fantasy books but I read this and then I was more open minded about the fantasy genre considering how much I loved the book.

I read this book just last year and it was important to me in more ways than one. First off, I could relate to it. Not directly, but both me and the main character are around the same age and we are both artists. Another reason is, it was one of the first historical fiction books I actually liked. I was never really able to get into books assigned in school but this one I wasn't able to even put it down. While reading this book I stayed up until 4 in the morning (whether I was supposed to or not) reading to try and finish it (and I did). There has never been a book quite like that one.

Conclusion

In conclusion, these books have changed my point of view on multiple things. Since reading these books, I have grown and changed as a person and I now have more than one perspective on life situations. They helped me realize I wasn't alone in the world and that there are more people out there that I can relate to than I think.
