Guatemala es un país que cuenta con una gran diversidad biológica, cultural, social y geográfica a partir del cual se pueden establecer estudios que aporten soluciones a problemáticas locales e incluso a nivel mundial. La educación es un puente de acceso al desarrollo del país y éste se puede implementar a través de la investigación científica, con el apoyo del sistema político, social y económico del país. Los efectos y uso no adecuado de los medicamentos también pueden crear dependencia. En Guatemala, existe una ley contra la narcoactividad; la cual establece la protección del individuo en cuanto a su prevención, promoción, recuperación y rehabilitación.
