My name is Alyssa Cano, my pronouns are she/her. I am currently living in Eugene, OR. My hometown is San Mateo, CA in the Bay Area. Back home I am on the Ohlone peoples land, and here in Eugene, I am in the land of the Kalapuya peoples. I am excited to learn from everyone and listen to different perspectives and stories. I am interested in conserving indigenous culture by preserving land and fighting for indigenous rights. As well as incorporating Indigenous knowledge into how we tackle environmental problems. I feel like I have many people that inspire me and motivate me in my daily life, currently, the person I look up to and who inspires me is Robin Wall Kimmerer. She is a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. Her book "Braiding Sweetgrass" changed my perspective on knowledge and science. She discusses in her book about the value of Indigenous knowledge and our strong connection and need to give back to our Earth instead of continuously taking. We need a worldwide mind shift change in the way we view nature and our environment. The best thing that I have bought so far this year is a new pair of outdoor rock climbing shoes!
