To me, this song has many different meanings all throughout. The line, “nothing is real and nothing to get hung about,” reminds me that the problems I am facing now are not the end of the world, and that I will always be okay in the end. Minimal issues should not have much value and therefore not affect me as much as they sometimes do. In addition, the line, “it's getting hard to be someone but it all works out, it doesn't matter much to me,” emphasizes the previous statement. Here, I believe Lennon is describing how difficult it is to conform in our society and be someone who is always liked or wanted. However, it all works out in the end and we find the people that truly matter as well as what things should hold value in our lives. In conclusion, this song has shaped who I am because it has taught me what I should care about in my life. Small problems that I face day to day in highschool seem enormous at times, but they shouldn’t bring me down because I am an individual and I will one day find my way and be happy. I shouldn’t change or conform myself to others because one day there will be people who accept who I am and it will be worth it.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

The Great Gatsby has defined how I view the world around me. In the book, Gatsby’s obsession with the American Dream and attaining wealth ultimately led to his demise. He was infatuated with the idea of Daisy and a perfect life with her, which is something that no one can truly achieve. This taught me that no sum of money can make someone genuinely happy, as all of the characters in the novel who were rich seemed to be corrupted and miserable. The only way happiness can be gained is by surrounding yourself with people and things that actually matter, because wealth is an empty luxury. When Gatsby died, almost no one came to his funeral, showing that he had no one who truly cared for him without his money and power.

This show has played an important role in my life ever since I began watching it as a freshman. I have learned many lessons throughout the eight seasons that the show has aired. The most important thing I have realized are that family and friendship are everything. Without the help of the main character’s friends, she would have never been able to overcome the many obstacles thrown her way. Even in the event that tragedies got the best of her, she still had people on her side who were able to support and help her. This shows me the importance of surrounding myself with people who are meaningful. Something else I realized is that I should try to live my life to the fullest. In the show, many of the characters are vampires and will live many lifetimes to have a multitude of experiences. However, I only have one lifetime to achieve all that I want and it pushes me to try new things and take risks.

The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling

This series has taught me many life lessons that will hold true all throughout my life. One of the main things I learned is that money cannot buy you true happiness. Although Harry inherited a large sum of money, it can never replace the void that is left behind by his parents death. I also learned that bravery is everything, and it is important to never stand back from what you believe in. Although many characters throughout the series showed cowardice and treachery like Peter Pettigrew when he betrayed the Potters and joined Voldemort’s army, there were also many other characters who displayed strong morale. Harry and the rest of his friends stayed strong and fought against the evil that corrupted their society. They all acted selflessly and gave everything in order to protect the people of the Wizarding World and their families. This teaches me to hold my beliefs dear and that family and friends should always come first. The one thing Voldemort lacked was empathy and the ability to create meaningful relationships which was caused his demise in the end. Power does not mean happiness.
