This will happen because water will diffuse into the cell because the water in a blood cell has lots of crap in it, such as salt and proteins. Distilled water has a higher concentration so water will go into the cell, causing it to expand and explode. OR: if the cell is accustomed to living in water, such as an amoeba or a fish cell, it will be able to control the flow of water.

We think this because the blood cells are going from a very high concentration, with lots and lots of blood cells, to a very low concentration, with much less blood cells. The cells diffuse to the pressure and difference of the water.
