I do not believe it is my place to say if apologies are enough or not. Residential schooling was not a part of me or my family's story, therefore I believe my opinion on this topic is not the important one.

I do not think apologies are enough. Apologies are to show someone how much you regret a decision that you made. But in this case, taking over 150,000 children's childhoods away and forcing a new religion and lifestyle upon them at such a young age, is unforgivable. The survivors never deserved to go through this, and we should not expect to receive forgiveness after putting them into this situation in the first place. Instead, we should show how we have changed, how we know this was a big mistake, and how much we have learned from this.

I think that apologies are not enough. These children went through a lot in residential school and words are not enough. I think that showing that you are sorry and that we have changed is better than just saying it.

Apologies are enough to provoke further change, but apologies alone will never be enough to make up for several generations of hurt and mistreatment, and its after effects that will likely never end. Families that have been torn apart in irreparable ways, and cultures almost eliminated.

I don't think that apologies are enough. Nothing can erase the terrible things that have been done to the Indigenous people of Canada. I think it is definitely important and a step in the right direction, but it won't be able to change what has happened. It's good that these terrible deeds have been acknowledged and apologized for though.

I believe that though apologies acknowledge the fact that these things were done, but them alone are not enough to erase the years of pain, suffering, torture and death that happened in the schools to the innocent children. most of the time the children were taken out of their homes and sent to these schools without consent most of the time and would return not being able to speak to their parents or family or not at all. Saying sorry to a broken plate might heal the plates feelings yet that plate will still be broken…

I feel apologizing for your actions will never be enough to undo the damage that was brought upon the world. Saying sorry will not undo the trauma those kids have experienced and nothing they say will justify what they did. There is no taking back what happened but the only thing they can do is make sure this never happens again

i think that apologies are not enough when these kids were forced to go to school. they were sexually assulted and that is something that would scar them for life

The apology is not enough. Indigenous people who went to those "schools" are now scarred for life. There is nothing enough to make up for it.

I think the apologies are a temporary act and hopefully, the government does more to help people that survived the residential schools

The apologies help to admit the wrong that happened but it doesn't fully fix it because there was damage that was done that is unfix-able.

The apologies cannot truly surpass the utter pain that the first nations people are in. the grieving and torment is unbearable. as we press on into the future lets try and never forget the ungodly things that have happened in the terrible terrible places known as residential schools.

while yes apologies do help in some cases but in this case I really do think that an apology wont cut it in this case I believe that actions and showing that they are sorry for letting residential schools run rampant for so long.

Apologies are meant to make people feel better, but the past can't be changed and it's unimaginable for those families who never knew what happened to their kids or received apologies

the fact that the prime minister has to apoligize for such horrible things, is discusting. why do people feel as though people of a different race deserve their culture taken out of them in such a traumatizing way.

I do think that the apologies were well needed but in fact, were a bit late, it was still an apology and means a lot and they know and engorged what they did wrong.

An apology was much needed but well overdue. Yes, it was very sincere and meaningful but there is so much more that needs to be done before we can fix the devastating past that was residential schools. I take pride in knowing Canada is willing to hold itself accountable but that's the bare minimum. Now, we have truth and reconciliation day which is another big step. In my opinion, residential schools seem overshadowed when in reality, residential schools should be talked about in classrooms a lot more than they are. For example, I had no idea about the reality of what went on in residential schools until this afternoon. It almost brought me to tears hearing about the physical and sexual abuse, death, and trauma those students went through. It is an extremely heavy topic and I can understand why they wouldn't want to tell elementary and middle school students as they may be considered "too young" but that's just the reality and I believe everyone should be educated on this matter.

While it is good that they did apologise and acknowledge their role in this cultural genocide, it came too late and there are still things they could be doing to help.

I think a apology will never be enough to what happened. But at least they tried to make it better by making a statement to help the situation and matter of the fact using recognition for others to help realize what happened and how just doing some thing simple as wearing a orange shirt and showing you do care about the matter can show respect even tho it does not seem like very much. I believe showing respect to these people help others realize that its not a joke and it's something that really did happen and hundreds of people died because of it and suffered and the only thing they really wanted was respect and other to see them not just for there culture as people. wear a orange shirt to support

The countless amounts of apologies, regretting tarnishing the lives of hundreds of indigenous people by the ongoing effects of residential schools. Sure, apologies are the perfect ways to settle drama and conflict. But the trauma caused by these schools, far outweighs any of the apologies. This wound will never fully heal, and will continue to be taught in school systems across canada. Letting us know our country's greatest mistake…

An apology can be a step forward, but it will never be enough to truly "fix" what happened to those kids. Apologies are only temporary. The apologies that have been said were way too late to actually settle peoples minds and hearts.
