Greaser Fashion

The greaser fashion started in the 1950's through around the 1970's. Greasers were known for their black leather flight jackets, loud motor bikes, and their jeans. The term "greaser" came about because they put a lot of grease in their hair to slick it back. They were also very rebellious and did not want to listen to adults. Most people thought their clothes were very rebellious also because it was not like what other people normally wore.

In the 1960's there were some amazing cars: Mustangs, , Camaros, and Jaguars are all some of them. In the early 1960's, car makers were more fixated on style and sleekness. The later 1960's were all about muscle cars and how loud your car was. In 1967, car makers were focused on safety and looks. Overall, in the 1960's many sales records were broken.

There were some 1960's movies that made history: The Jungle Book, Sword in the Stone, and 2001: A Space Odyssey are all examples of great movies. The Hays system, created by William Hays, was a moral code that stated what was acceptable and what was unacceptable for public motion pictures in the US. After a few years of the system not being enforced, in 1968 it began to weaken and was replaced by the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) which is the current way of rating movies: G, PG, PG-13, R, X, XX, XXX. Overall, movies, as the 1960's progress, get more and more adult content.

S.E. Hinton uses history in her book by giving us a picture of greaser sub-culture to show that there is tension between social groups. The Socs have tension because they feel trapped in the socially privileged box. So they react by jumping greasers. The greasers have tension because they feel inferior to the Socs and they retaliate with violence (ie: robbing a gas station, having a rumble).
Overall, S.E. Hinton uses history to show how no one likes to be put in a box.
