Oftentimes the fluctuations can be attributed to a company's performance and the news about them. Such things would be the news on their earnings, profits, dividends, future estimates, mergers, etc. (Investing 5). Other factors are overall industry performance. "Often, the stock price of the companies in the same industry will move in tandem with each other. This is because market conditions generally affect the companies in the same industry the same way."
