The Outsiders is a book centering around a child named Ponyboy, who's in a gang referred to as greasers. His friend, Johnny, accidentally murders a person from a rival gang, referred to as the socs. Now, he and his friend must go on the run in an attempt to make sure that Johnny isn't sent to prison. The Outsiders manages to use a lot of figurative language. For example, when Ponyboy talks about how Darry is bored to death, he doesn't mean that he'll actually die, but simply means it as a metaphor. Another example of it was when Sodapop, Ponyboy's brother, mentioned how that when he was cut by one of the rival gangs' members, he said that he was bleeding like a stuck pig, as in he was bleeding heavily from the side of his head.
