i think these are new and interesting ways to use technology in the classroom. i didnt even know that these resources were out there for us to use! i wish that i would have known some of this for my previous projects i have completed throughout college. I will use these in the classroom in place of boring old lectures, i may even use them to post online for parents. Like if i introduce a new way of communication online, (remind, class dojo) then i can use these tools to show them how to use them!

Brain storming is nothing new. We use it everyday. I love how mind mapping makes brain storming visible and it's a way to put your thoughts on paper. I think I will use mind mapping a lot in my classroom because it's a good way to organize your thoughts. I've never really seen cartoons used in the classrooms but I think it's a good way to catch the interest of students and I can definitely see its purpose in the classroom.
Michelle Austin

I really enjoyed learning about the mind map. I love how it gives you a visual and it has different colors so that kids do not get confused. Brainstorming can be difficult at times, but maybe with it being color coded it will spark more brainstorming ideas. I used Toondoo in my high school Spanish class. It was a great way to learn Spanish and it was extremely helpful to remember certain words.
- Chantel Fecht

I am excited to use mind maps and cartoon/comics with my visual spacial learners. I think both would be great for students who are visual learners. I want to also use mind maps in reading. I think it would be a great way for students to summarize a book. Before this class I did not know about mind maps or cartoon/comics. I think both of them will be beneficial in my classroom.
Elizabeth Heftie

I think that the use of Mind Maps in classrooms is huge. It is something that the kids can do on their own, or they can work together to create. I would plan on having them write them out first, and then I would have them progress to using web based programs to create Mind Maps. I also think that students would really enjoy creating their own cartoons for different lessons. These cartoon possibilities seem to be endless, so they could be used for any age and any lesson. And kids are so good with technology, that with a little guidance, they could produce a great cartoon.
~Heather~

Visual learning can benefit students that learn and comprehend better seeing things done rather than getting lectured to. The opposite thing applies to auditory learners. I believe that mind maps alone can be very helpful for visual learners. Having students talk about the map they made and the connections between ideas can be great too! I think that maps can limit learners aside from visual learners. Auditory and hands-on learners may not get the same benefit. They are a great activity that can be used throughout a year or semester.
-Tyler Egenberger

Mind maps create a visual for a thought processes, and cartoons can be a creative way to show vocabulary.
I think both would help a classroom be more successful and help students who can't learn just from a teacher speaking.

-MacKayla Hemmingse

I will use mind mapping in my future classroom because it is a great tool for organizing your thoughts and it can be a great study tool. Mind mapping is also a good tool for those who can't speak well in front of the class, but can still see their ideas. I will use cartoons to help more of my visual learners!

Hannah Nutt

Mind maps are extremely useful! The number one way I know I will use mind maps is to map out a story for a visual aid. I will first have the students do a mind map individually, and then together as a class. This gives each student the chance to mention a part of the story that they found important, that other students may not have caught. I can't wait to incorporate mind maps into my classroom!
-Carly Schnell

I know for sure that I will use cartoons/comics in my classroom someday. I think that they would be especially beneficial for social stories. I could even create a cartoon of a certain student I was working with and put him/her into the social story to help him/her understand a social concept. As for mind mapping, I am not sure I would use this as much with preschoolers, but I could use it with kindergartners to help them brainstorm a story topic or help them solve a problem they didn't know how to solve.
- Alissa Walker
