-England was overcrowded, and had a shortage of land, they wanted land to farm, trees for lumber, fish for food.

-During the starving time, they had to eat: cats, dogs, rats, snakes, horses, shoe leather, and eventually...PEOPLE! This was because they spent too much much time looking for gold and not enough time farming. Also, the Powhatans surrounded the fort and trapped them there all winter!
