Brief Lesson Summary:For the last project of the semester, students are going to plan, with great detail, their dream house. Students are acting as the interior designer and are going to design three rooms by applying everything they have learned in Interior Design. They will then present their projects and incorporate more concepts in the oral presentation.

Picture of house from the outside with style of house, roof, and windows labeled.

Each room to scale on graph paper with the layout you are choosing. All furniture pieces are included either with templates or stencils. Color all furniture pieces and floor. Include measurements of room size. If not using provided stencils and templates, measurements of furniture must be included.

Traffic patterns indicated by drawing arrows in the room to scale.

Pictures of all furniture- bed (headboard and footboard), dressers, end tables, couches, chairs, vanity, toilet, shower/tub. Bonus points: Label your furniture styles

Swatches or pictures of all textiles-window treatments, floors, rugs, sheets, comforters, towels, upholstered furniture, throw pillows, shower curtains or glass doors.

Paint swatches (paper or electronic) for all wall colors. These cannot be used for fabric.

Label color harmony for each room and justify why it is appropriate for that room.

List the mass, rhythm, form, and types of lines used in each room.

Pictures of accessories- small lamps, mirrors, pictures, artwork, clocks, soap dispensers, toothbrush holder, throw pillows, etc.

List the function of each room.

Rationalize your belief of whether or not the room is aesthetic.

For the last project of the semester, you are going to plan, with great detail, your dream house. You, the interior designer, are going to design three rooms by applying everything you have learned in Interior Design. Everyone must complete the project. The oral presentation portion will serve as the final exam and anyone who exempts the final, will be exempt from the oral presentation. You may compile your project in any organized manner that you choose. Use your creativity!! Some examples are: mobile, presentation board, portfolio, scrapbook, etc.

Transfer Task (s):

Will apply all knowledge learned in the course in order to properly design the bedroom, bathroom, and living/family room.

Evaluative Criteria:

Students will turn in a either an electronic presentation or a hard copy visual aid (i.e. mobile, poster, scrapbook, etc.) containing pictures or samples of each material and piece of furniture used. It will be organized by room and graded with a rubric provided to students at the beginning of the project.

Other Evidence (quizzes, tests, prompts, observations, dialogues, work samples, etc.)

As students work, I will walk around the room and observe their progress.

Student Self-Assessment and Reflection

Once the project is turned in, it will be graded and returned for students to make any further corrections in order to prepare for the final exam. (This project ties in with the final)

Experience (Lesson Plan) 1:

Focus Questions: How will I (the student) design three rooms in a house that are aesthetically pleasing and incorporate all materials learned in Interior Design?

Learning Target: I can determine color harmonies based on wall color, furniture color and accessory color, I can see the mass in a room based on how visually crowded a room is, I can name the rhythm, form, and lines used the design of my room, I can draw my rooms to scale and indicate traffic patterns with arrows, I can accessorize my room with pieces that match the room and my style.

Performance Indicator: Students will compile all materials or pictures to create a visual aid of their dream house design.

Learning Activities: Students will be designing their dream house by applying all knowledge learned from the semester. I will introduce the project with a Google Presentation to go over all requirements. The presentation will also include a teacher provided example of one room as well as examples from previous students. Students will be given a rubric and checklist to help them work through the project. The presentation will be posted to my teacher website so that students can access the information when needed.
