Hi, my name is Destinie Parks. I am in the Master of Counseling Program, and I am so proud of myself for making it this far despite all the trials and obstacles I have overcame.

I would like to get as much knowledge as I can on trauma and crisis as possible. I feel due to my position at work I have hands on experience when it comes to crisis and trauma but not in-depth knowledge.

One personal goal I have for this course kind of goes back to what I hope to gain from this course. As much knowledge as I can. A professional goal I have is to move up to a team lead position.

ACA Code of Ethics

In the ACA code of ethics there are codes LPC's must folloe. Think of it as a rulebook for counselors that keeps clients safe and ensures counseling is professional, fair and ethical. Some main points include 1. Putting clients first always, the counselor's main job is to help clients, not push their own beliefs or interests. 2. Respect privacy. What a client shares must stay confidential, unless someone is in danger. 3.Being honest and clear. Counselors should explain the process of counseling, fees, and limits of confidentiality in a way clients understand. 4. Avoid harm. Counselors shouldn't exploit, judge, or mistreat clients. They should act in the client's best interest. 5. Stay in their lane. Basically, counselors should only provide services they are trained and qualified to do. 6. Culture Respect. Counselors must respect differences in culture, race, religion, gender, sexuality, and background. 7. Professional Boundaries. No romantic or business relationships with clients. 8. Keep learning. LPC's are expected to keep up with training, research, and new techniques to give the best care possible. 9. Act professionally. They must treat colleagues with respect, handle conflicts ethically, and report serious misconduct if needed. 10. Advocacy and Social Justice. Counselors should support fairness in society and advocate for clients when systems are unfair or discriminatory.

The code isn't just a list of ruled- it's a guide for how I show up every day with clients, colleagues, and the profession as a whole.

I thought this was a very informative presentation we put together. This is something that I could see the local juvenile detention centers using. Often times they ask my place of employment for advice on what they should do in certain situations, and I feel this is so informative and the first step. Creating a plan.

This assignment was fascinating to me. I could have benefited from something like this when I was in my bachelor program. At my place of employment, we get walk in crisis all the time. Through experience I have learned what to do and often feel that I thrive in crisis situations and 9/10 times my coworkers my don't really like handling the crisis. I on the other hand like to see the client through the whole process such as when they are in active crisis to being stable in a outpatient setting.
