The poet I decided to explore this summer is British-Indian poet Nikita Gill. I came across Gill's poem when scrolling through pinterest, and immediately fell in love with her work, wanting to read more.

When reading Gill's Pieces of You, I was instantly reminded of Marilyn Monroe. The poem talks about losing yourself to fit into other's standards, just as Norma Jean lost so much of herself in order to stay Marilyn Monroe, ultimately resulting in her death and destruction.

I found these lines the most powerful in Gill's Your Ruins, because I find that many people sacrifice all in themselves in order to accomplish something that is not the best for them, but what is wanted by those around them. Gill is stating that if you wanted to sacrifice yourself and put efforts into something that could destroy you, it should not be for something that others want for you, or that may make you look better around others, but for something that will truly benefit yourself.

In the poem "Wolf and Women," Nikita Gill uses the metaphor of a wolf to symbolize the strength, resilience, and wild nature that resides within women. Through her words, she encourages women to embrace their inner strength, acknowledge their power, and not be confined by societal expectations. The poem resonates with many readers by celebrating the untamed spirit that lives within every woman.

I believe that this poem, unlike most of Gill's poems, is intended for all readers. It is quite sad, thinking that nowadays, all this father is wishing for his young daughter is her happiness. It shows how in society, things have gotten so low that all the father has to wish for a six year old child;s happiness.
