Rigor in art class is more work from the teacher and less frustration for the student. Rigor for art includes lots of inspiration from famous artists, myself, and other students. Breaking the skills being used into baby steps. Teacher critique while the project is in progress is vital. When using Rigor and teaching to different learning styles the student is less likely to copy than create and more secure in their skills.

Rigor is a high learning process that engages students to learn at the maximum level potential.
In my class, students learn the steps by repetition which are slow and clear. Once they gain confidence in the movement, the students break off into groups focusing on cleaning and finessing. At this time, the students are using rigor to be able to perform without mistakes in front of their peers.

Rigor is the result of work that challenges students' thinking in new and interesting ways. It occurs when they are encouraged toward a sophisticated understanding of fundamental ideas and are driven by curiosity to discover what they don't know.
I try to encourage higher level thinking skills and applying concepts to new situations and seeing them in new places as well as inspiring wonder and a love of learning. They need to be inspired to have hope for the future

I want to push each and every one of my students by asking challenging questions and for me, not being scared to ask those types of questions. I want my students to feel comfortable enough to take risks while being challenged and not being afraid to be wrong/ make mistakes.

Rigor is so much more than… more homework, more projects, or more books to read. It is when you take the lesson to the next level and try to prepare students for real life. It is being more student centered rather than teacher centered. In my class, I try to incorporate rigor by asking more open ended and higher level questions. Also, I use the classroom economy system for my classroom jobs to help prepare them for the real world.
