Students can often do the math but have great difficulty applying the math. Additionally, students are used to scaffolding, in many cases, so when they have to infer which information to use in word problems, for example, they panic because there is no scaffolding. Also, with our students coming from many different schools, they are not necessarily coming with the same background knowledge.
Many of our students coming to our district do not always want to go to college so they do not always take their academic courses seriously. Also, we feel that the IM 1 curriculum was too fast for our students last year, presuming that our students came with a suitcase of knowledge that wasn't necessarily packed.

While it was not surprising, we were curious about the median test scores. Also, the data is still disheartening as teachers work incredibly hard to hold their students to a high standard and it is sad when they don't meet that standard. Perhaps if we could measure growth as opposed to how we stand against the entire population, it would help to reaffirm that what we are doing is helping our students.

It is easier to use it this year. Technology, for example, is easier to use in the classroom as both teachers and students are more familiar with how to use the technology in ways that would best benefit the students.
