She provides multiple stories revealing a more complete view of her identity. I believe this is an example of using stories "to empower and humanize". The speaker tells stories to complete our understanding of how various stories together give a more complete picture of a person or place. When she read the books from England, she also wrote about snow, and apples and ginger beer, even though she had none of that were she lived. If she had read Nigerian books she would have written like them. Since she is a writer, she knows that single stories can "dispossess and mailgn" and "break dignity". But on the other side of the scale, books that are not single stories can "repair broken dignity." She wants everyone to know, that as a writer she is trying to create books that don't have single stories but empower and teach people about the whole picture.
