One thing possibly compromising Jeb's health could possibly his immune system. Jeb is dealing with a great amount of stress and his lack of coping skills could cause his immune system to become weak and not function correctly. According to the textbook, it is possible for stress to have a negative impact on one's immune system . This can mean that when he does contract COVID 19 that he won't have the strong immune system that he needs.
(Weiten, Dunn, & Hammer, 2018)

Jeb's stress is mainly coming from his fear of Death due to him working in the hospital... and his lack of coping with this idea is not very healthy. Jeb has worked very hard to do well in medical school, take care of his student debt, have a stable social life and the main thing that keeps him going is hope that he will graduate and attain the life he’s been struggling for. Unfortunately, while job shadowing at a local hospital, Jeb gets a bit of what feels like is an upper respiratory infection. Turns out that after being checked, Jeb has tested positive for COVID-19, and in that instant, he feels his world fall away. Because of the short staff Jeb had hoped to aid others during this pandemic but now he is a part of the unlucky few. This increases his stress from a level he was managing fairly well to one he has to reassess and figure out how to cope. One way of coping his him thinking positively and the support he has from the doctors and nurses at the hospital he was at.
(Weiten, Dunn, & Hammer, 2018; Kadela, & Madnawt, 2018)

Just like everyone else, Jeb is always awaiting new information on COVID-19. On top of the fear of passing away, he fears and becomes agitated because of the lack of information being presented to him just because he is sick. He has been allowed to keep some of his personal belongings, one of which includes his phone. Jeb will periodically look up new leads on the virus throughout the day. He says its to limit how much time he spends on the topic, but in reality, it takes up every day he is there. He has not been taking in a 'reasonable rate of consumption', which, according to an article on the NAMI website, should only be around twice a day.
(Ponte, 2020)

How we view ourselves can and will change throughout the duration of our lives. Before his diagnosis, Jeb had been striving for a medical degree. Given the difficulty of such a degree Jeb would have probably described himself as someone who was diligent, hard working, self-disciplined. And given his chosen career path Jeb should think he is a caring individual, willing go out on the front lines and assist with the rising COVID-19 epidemic while at his local hospital. He is willing to help regardless of how fruitless the effort may seem to others in the area.
Sadly, Jeb, himself falls victim to this disease and is tested positive. While discouraged and tired, he remains optimistic and hopeful that he will come out of this ordeal.
(Weiten, Dunn, & Hammer, 2018)

Jeb was very set on her and nobody else, this is considered to be monogamy, the practice of having one partner at a time...
Jebs parents had a divorce when he was thirteen and this impacted him greatly for the next three years. This affects him later in his life because after a long relationship failed he has now learned to explore relationships without getting overly attached.
(Weiten, Dunn, & Hammer, 2018)

Before the whole coronavirus, Jeb was dating a girl named Jenny Gump. They were happy for the first couple of months in their relationship but then things started going downhill. Jenny was becoming dissatisfied in their relationship engaging in the intrapsychic process. After she expressed this to Jebidiah through a heated argument. After that argument things kept getting worse, they kept. They eventually broke up, Jeb begging her to stay but she would not. With Jenny gone Jeb was heartbroken, he felt pain, both mentally and physically. He began to feel alone, burrowing himself in his school work. He was shyer around people and his social skills started to lack outside of a professional tone. He fell into a depression that only lightens when he began his internship at the hospital.

(Weiten, Dunn, & Hammer, 2018)

Being a medical student, and a passionate and focused one at that, it would be safe to assume that Jeb has decent coping flexibility. Your career path can play a role in what coping strategies work best, but for those who actively practice coping flexibility, its about stepping back and evaluating the problem on the spot. In environments like hospitals where patients look to you for guidance and reassurance, the ability to gauge where a situation lies in terms of urgency while keeping your patients' nerves down takes a lot of energy and concentration.
Taking it a step further, Jeb is tested positive for COVID-19. While he will need more than just coping to wrap his head around the gravity of his situation, it will certainly keep him relatively leveled throughout the process. Because his career revolves around the medical field and COVID-19 is such an urgent issue, Jeb is not ignorant of the situation or its severity. He has been privy to more information on the pandemic than the general public has. He makes the effort to use more appraisal-focused strategies of constructive coping. He has faith in the medical professionals around him, as well as the efforts his colleges and other students are making to help.
(Kadela, & Madnawat, A., 2018)

Jeb has never felt uncertain or unhappy about his gender. He identifies as a male and has somewhat fallen into the gender stereotypes associated with his own. He is independent and self-sufficient but this is more so because he is a 25-year-old medical student, not because he is a male. Jeb is also a very emotional and gentle person, taking time to expresses himself and be conscious of other people. The way he interacted with his girlfriend Jenny is a good example of how even though he is a man, Jeb seemed to be way more emotionally involved than she did.
(Weiten, Dunn, & Hammer, 2018)

But, this did not stop him from having sex with his past few girlfriends. When Jeb was in his early teens he took an abstinence pledge and this would later be broken with multiple partners, he feels very guilty for breaking the pledge. Jeb does not realize is that many of his peers whom have taken the pledge are just as, if not more sexually active than he is. It is believed that people whom take abstinence pledges end up being just as active as their peers who have not taken it.
(Weiten, Dunn, & Hammer, 2018)

Many psychologists are divided on this topic, some say it is good and workaholics deserve praise for their selflessness... and others see it as a form of addiction. One thing that is for sure is that Jeb is very selfless in working and helping others.
(Weiten, Dunn, & Hammer, 2018)

After going through the stress and trauma of being diagnosed with a deadly disease, Jeb was informed that there was hope. In due time, it seemed as though Jeb was safe to leave the hospital, free and clear of COVID-19. Long after being released from the hospital the effects of the situation still lingered. Certain colleagues would not associate with him anymore, and slightly labored breaths remind him often of what could have been. Thankfully, Jebediah did not come out of this ordeal alone. There was a man he'd come to grow close to while in the hospital named Steve. Where Jeb hid his concern by compulsively checking his phone and stating repeatedly that things were okay, Steve was openly distraught and didn't seem to have an issue with sharing how he felt with Jeb. Steve had been released days after Jeb, who'd been at the hospital waiting for him along with his family. Through all the stressful events he has gone through he has come out a better man, he has learned to cope and adjust more to life and his views have changed. He found love and he has learned that work is not everything, that there are others there for him which allows him to also better manage stress. He is still living his life, learning more about himself and how the world works and adjusts to life.
