In phase 1 of stress resistance the body starts out by mobilizing "...its resources to cope with added stress." This means that the body naturally pumps the body full of adrenaline and then afterwards you may have side effects such as headache, fever, fatigue, sore-muscles, etc.

An example that i have had of this was when I would go to the office for something, but I did not know what the something was and I kept thinking to myself and wondering what it was that I had done to get in trouble. I had a shortness of breath and I was very stressed.

In stage 2 the "body's defenses come into balance, symptoms of the alarm reaction disappear. Outwardly, everything seems normal. However, this appearance of normality comes at a high cost. The body is better able to cope with the original stressor, but its resistance to other stress is lowered.

The text says that when you are in the cold you are stressed about being cold and you trying to seem okay makes the body more susceptible to infection.

I am pretty good at dealing with stress, usually i try to calm down and address the situation, take deep, long, and calm breaths. This usually works, but sometimes when I just get overwhelmed with multiple things at once I can't handle it so I usually step back and do nothing for a while and clear my head.
