Elephants are highly social animals, who live in multigenerational herds. Just like a family an elephant can decide who it wants to spend its time with or if it want to spend its time alone. Sometimes elephants can even have a small disagreements. Elephants usually have a leader who keep the herd on track called the matriarch. The leaders are the ones who find the resources for the herd since these big animals eat about 7% of their body weight. Elephants also have to constantly engage with their environment to see what they need to thrive and live. The leaders are usually the ones who can identify danger as well as being the one to respond to it. When encountering danger or unusual areas, elephants usually stay close together to explore it before they feel safe enough to explore on their own.

Source:

https://sandiegozoowildlifealliance.org/story-hub/meet-the-herd-elephant-valley?_gl=1*sqxew9*_gcl_au*MTMzMDEyNTE0MC4xNzczNzc3NzU4*_ga*MTU1NDMwODM2My4xNzczNzc3NzU4*_ga_3BDB3H618R*czE3NzM3Nzc3NTgkbzEkZzAkdDE3NzM3Nzc3NTgkajYwJGwwJGgw

They are large antelopes with long, spear-like horns — with the Gemsbok (Oryx gazella) being the largest of the oryx species. They are a true desert animal, with a thick, horse-like neck; a short mane; and a compact, muscular body. A defined pattern of black markings that contrast with their white face and fawn-colored body are prominently displayed during dominance rituals to emphasize the length of their horns and the strength of their shoulders. Local communities hunt these large antelopes for their meat and hides, and in many cultures, their horns are sought after as charms.

https://www.awf.org/wildlife-conservation/oryx
