Based on that, I will prepare a list of questions and elements of answers for the RC to rehearse.

I will remind the RC that she must show empathy, sincerity, and apologize for what the alleged victims have gone through.

Some unexpected questions might be sensitive, therefore I will explain to the RC how to bridge questions when she should avoid mentioning something that can be used against her or the organization. I will advise her to stress that the investigations are still ongoing and that once concluded, if found guilty, the UN staff members will be brought to justice.

She should stress that those found guilty will be held accountable without delay. She should also emphasize the UN-wide "zero tolerance" policy towards SEA. And we should rehearse the interview beforehand, with me playing the journalist, to see how the RC would handle difficult and/or provocative questions.

The background note should be shared and latest similar cases and responses, facts and figures on SEA, and be reminded of her media training and strategies like bridging. Check in with the RC on what her own questions are and if she’d like any additional background info. that we can source. She should highlight the SG's message. And be consistent in focusing media on next steps on the present case and the investigation taking place.
